Should he have: A) Caught or punched the cross before it found the striker? B) Been quicker with his dive? IMO, he didn't seem to command his goal area with a great deal of authority during the match. Hope his chances (admittedly slim) of a World Cup call-up have not been jeopardised. Will Hennessy be given a run-out before the end of the season? Yes he should have done better from a bullet downward header from 3 yards out, delivered by a literally inch perfect cross.

How ever many times you ask the question or re-phrase it, the consensus is that NO, Jules wasnt at fault for the goal and couldnt have done much to stop it. Edited by paperhat (28 Apr 2014 5.38pm)

No, it was a perfect ball in between the defence and the Keeper. If he comes for that, he doesn't get there in time. If he positions himself to be able to get there in time, he's more likely to conceed from a shot. Toure had too much time on the ball, and were not fast enough to stop Dejko. No ones fault, they were just better than us.

In my humble opinion as a Goal Keeping coach to Juniors: How do we stop these type of goals? It was a superb cross and quality header - we've perhaps got to accept sometimes the quality that we are up against. Unfortunately our defence wasn't its usual Iron Curtain self yesterday. Toure had all the steel and their quality showed as suggested.

I think this thread demonstrates that we've got so used to Jules pulling off miracle saves that some can't quite believe it when he doesn't. As several others have said the fault was giving Toure too much time and space to pick out a perfect cross. The trajectory and pace of the cross meant Jules couldn't have got to it and the downward header was pretty much perfect. Dann or Mariappa needed to have got closer to Dzeko and put him under pressure, they only gave him a yard of space but it was enough. The 'mistake' for the second goal was letting Toure bulldoze through the defence. The man's almost unstoppable when he's on a charge as plenty of other defenders have found out this season. I don't believe Jules had any chance with that goal either. I didn't think City were at their best on Sunday but they have class all over the pitch, Toure in particular was the difference. Sometimes you just have to hold your hand up. Palace were not disgraced.
