Palace under 21's are currently leading brentford 6-0 and gayle has scored 5 of them. Hope fully he will get a decent run out when we are mathmatically safe

I don't think there is any questioning Gayles potential or ability, I think the problem has been more with his experience. He's got pace, talent and intution in spades, but he's stepped up several leagues in less than a year.

I think he could end up a very good premiership goalscorer, but he needs games, which means we need to reach safety.

Not bad though, considering he picked up an injury a couple of weeks ago!

Agree with jamie. He'll get his chance, just now isn't really the right time. He was bought as an investment for the future.

Gayle's a great player... his goal against villa was amazing and he slways gives his all when he's on the pitch... think he deserves more of a run out but can't really question pulis considering where we are... hopefully he will get more of a run when we are mathematically safe or next season.

In other news, McCarthy scored in the opposition net.

I suspect if we stay up, Gayle will be sent out for the season on loan to a Championship team.

It's certainly going to be an interesting summer of ins and outs if we stay up.

Not for £6.5m he wasn't - for that sort of money he was supposed to be the answer. Now it's clear he isn't and calling him 'one for the future' is a way of justifying the money and the fact he isn't yet good enough. It's not his fault, blame the people who scouted and employed him.

Yes to that. Now is the time to play a man to score the goals for what he was bought. Or is he still a boy? Just don't get this pampering. Palace did not pay a proper transfer fee for a player we daren't trust to do the job we expect. Use or lose TP

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Gayle scores FIVE as Palace u21s rout Brentford ' by SloveniaDave

Dwight Gayle scored five goals in 57 minutes for Palace's u21 side yesterday afternoon at Tooting and Mitcham as they beat Brentford 6-0 (Paddy McCarthy scored the other goal).

Worth a start on Saturday maybe?
