went to game with 2 mates. sing on our own for most of the game. The support on the right half of the away end was very poor, however Newcastle fans were soooo quiet.

The away end was massive and the sound just disappeared out of the stadium.

Gutted at the end.

Roll on Chelsea.

Odd away day, I had newcastle supporters telling me how good we were but I disagree.

I think it was a mixture of
A) the sound not carrying well (I could see the HF but not hear them)
B) hangovers from the night before, I didn't sing as much as I normally do.

The most bizarre part of it all was finding how many of our fans preferred to smoke in the concourse and toilets during the game, they weren't even watching the screens. Each to their own but fek if I'd travel that far to puff on a cigaratte instead of watching the game.

That being said I thought St James's park was fantastic, its a monster of a ground. The view was like that of a computer game, which showed just how isolated our strikers are.

The return of Chamakh is key

as an extra I'll add the Newcastle fans I encountered were welcoming people, great night out

Pity that the Newcastle atmosphere didn't sound too great cos when I went up a few years ago, the day we found out we were in Admin, we sang non-stop.

I think we have to accept that we only have a great away support on occasions. We're never going to get a great volume of noise when 70% of our lot sit down - fact. They always have done and they always will.

I hate allocated seating at away games - if you want to sit down, go to the front. Simple.

I was at the game too and didn't think the support was that good. HF were to the left side of the stand and seemed to be singing different songs to the rest of us. Quite a few day trippers who spent most of the game saying how bad Jerome and Bolaise are and rarely joined in the singing. Don't see the point in travelling all that way spending best part of upto 400 quid just to not enjoy the game/themselves.
Quite a few chucked out yesterday for smoking in the stands, long way to go to get chucked out for doing that.Thought we played better than we did at Sunderland and Speroni was excellent.

I take massive offense to that! Unfortunately I don't get to many games, but I left my house in the west of Ireland at qtr to 2 sat morning to get a bus to the airport 6:45 flight to Newcastle got no sleep, was up the back row w and I didn't stop singing! I didn't notice others not singing because I wasn't quiet enough to notice, you must have been! I was one of the 1st in and last out of the stadium! The trip cost me in excess of €500 and I got assaulted sat night too! And spent 4 hours in a&e with possible concussion, so again no sleep! But I don't care because I got to see my beloved Palace! And because of flight delays etc I didn't get home until after 3 am Monday morning! Do you consider that day trippin' ?

Sorry, Cannot see where I said Quinn85 was just a day tripper at Newcastle, Its not all about you. As you will see from other posters who formed the same opinion as me. You were obviously oblivious to the fans that didnt really seemed interested in watching the football and were just out for a good weekend, their choice but I think it effected the atmosphere somewhat.

I thought the newcastle support was terrible, been a few times and they were always passionate and noisy. Not sure about the noise not carrying, they just sat for 90 minutes, it was like a northern version of Arsenal.

As far as our support goes, having two groups, one to the left of me and one to the right singing different songs on occasions was a downer, but when every one was in tandem it was very noisy. Saw a lot of tweets from newcastle fans praising our support, some saying we were the best fans to visit this season.

Referee was a complete tool though, as was his blind assistant with the yellow flag.

The same at sunderland we must have the biggest portion of sit down supporters away from home in the league.
My mate was even told by some bloke to stop shouting because he was sitting down in front with his mother in law.
All this clap trap about us having the best fans is laughable ....when your at Selhurst Saturday take a look around and see how many don't make a noise around you.

Was at the game in the East Stand. I lived and worked in the North East for 40 years. Have many friends who support either Newcastle or Sunderland. I now live in the East Midlands and decided to spend the weekend in Alnwick. After the match took the train North with many friendly Newcastle supporters. All agreed Palace support was the best they had seen this season. This was also reinforced when visiting Pubs over the weekend. I was also at the Sunderland game but felt the support was more muted.

It's all relative. I agree, our support is nothing special but we're now in the tourist league. Having a few dozen fans singing non-stop makes us a class apart.

Noisy atmosphere's in the Premier League are reserved for special occasions.
