Ah the mythical "We don't have the players to play any other way" line. They are professional footballers of varying levels of ability who can adjust, given time, to whatever system is given to them. Right now they are adjusting to the way TP wants them to play and they are still struggling a little with the ball as they are preoccupied with their positioning.

I think the time is now here to start taking teams on with our counter attacking style both home and away. Our remaining games are all against high quality sides or teams around us with something to play for. Most of the sides we are facing have one crucial weakness - centre of defence - in every single remaining game. True, the likes of Chelski, Citeh and Scousers (after battering Manure) are great going forward, but they do not defend well. We need pace and TWO goalscorers up front (Muzza and Gayle for me). I would rather we sacrifice a DM for a creative midfielder, and that perhaps Bannan or Guediora steps into the side. Also, we need more old fashioned width and that means, Thomas and Bolasie to start. If we don't start with this sort of line up, then we give ourselves 45 mins to hold out at 0-0 at HT, then change it up, and attack in the 2nd half. No sense in hoping for a scratchy point - we need 3 wins to get to safety in my view. Others have said this, but now is the time for us to start winning, and getting that "shock" result against one of our home Top 4 side fixtures. COYP. Maybe , if you were still playing Johnny , but what quality forwards do we have ? If Thomas could beat people like Bolasie does and then put in the quality crosses he can do perhaps Murray will score (I am sure of that). Or if Bolasie could cross like Thomas after he has beaten some defenders then maybe , but unfortunately neither of them can do both . It's all hit and miss. Thus the chosen path is to play solid and see what we can get.

Now, let's see the teams that wanted to attack the top sides...oh yeah there's ; Man C 6 Spurs 0 Very noble, had a go and got well beaten. What on earth chance would Palace have opening the game up ? JB entirely misses the point that we have been employing counter attacking tactics....hence Joe Hart MOM in a game which they had 80% possession ! A last ditch tackle at Stamford Bridge denying us a point. If we're guilty of anything, it's not making the most of the possession that we do have.

I think maybe we need to become a bit more tactical going forwards, if we want to win more games, but thats more a case for maybe swapping KG out for say Bannan or O'Keefe when theres 20m to go, and dropping Jedinek into a pure defensive midfielder role, with Bannan playing a more attacking play maker role, or O'Keefe as a more central midfielder. I think Pulis' is right setting out to contain first fifty or so minutes, to wear the otherside down more, and hit them on the counter. I think maybe he's looking to nick a couple of games between now and the end of the season, and draw the rest.
Ledley or Guidiera at a push.

If we are going to do counter attacking football we at least need fast players to make it work. Ince could be the answer for that creative skill we need in MD, but apart from his first game he hasn't done great. The team needs more of a balance and playing Ledley where he should be would help. Against Newcastle we can get something, but the tactics need to be right and so does the selection.

When your playing with a six man defence (the two holding midfielders), we can be afford to be a little more light weight further forward, by playing Bannan in the hole behind Murray or Gayle up front with him, Ince (in his best Position) on the right and Bolasie on the left, and instead of lumping the ball at Murray, who has no one up with him, lets play it out wide to get balls in the box for Murray to attack.

I don't think our tactics are wrong with our present line-up, just wished we more often could pass the ball to a teammate, avoiding the hoofballs and misses.
