The most dull thing I have read on this particular thread is that this thread is dull. Could be whoever wrote that didn't quite understand what's being discussed here. Hate to give advice, but for his ilk the place to be is with the oolighans at Millwall. They,re the same sort, not really getting it, being aggressive in what they think is a 'funny' way and attempting to look clever, which makes the point of this thread. No doubt he didn't realise his comments were proving the point he doesn't understand!

That's quite presumptuous of you there. Especially when you have no idea who I am, what I think or anything about me really. I read the opening post and thought it was dull. Looked at the poster name and realised its not the first time this poster has bored me rigid. Intriguing title but (for me) substance full of pretentious claptrap. Each to their own. If you like it, go for it. I fully accept I probably should have just kept quiet-the polite thing to just really say nothing and move on. Apologies to any little egos that have been hurt by my response, but 'not getting it'? Really? Please explain the high brow intellectual depth that I don't get. You are obviously on a much higher academic plane than I. I'd really love to hear this one. Maybe you could PM me to spare everyone else the distraction from this topic (and you the embarrassment of course!)

Nice to see you came back est1905.

What can I say, I did actually regret my rudeness yesterday. I apologise.
Wanted to see if there were any angry responses, and yours to be fair was pretty dignified. I'm not such a bad bloke, you'll just have to take my word for that!
From now on I will try to refrain from throwing my two penneth worth in unless its constructive.

Nice post est1905.

The reason I started this is what Blanksight says. Some people post on here just for fun but I have noticed that many post because they want to influence other people. Lots of people say 'I don't normally post but I have to have my say on ....'.

But also not many people really want to break ranks.

So my theory is that in having our constant debates we do get a kind of consensus going. And that puts a few ripples in the pond and may have just a tiny effect on other Palace fans. And probably it would be no bad thing if we had a bit more influence because, in the round, there is a lot of sense on this site.

Maybe even the support on here gives some people the bravery to do something new. But I suppose it also makes it tough for new posters that haven't yet tuned into the consensus.

I suppose I'm a bit of a lone wolf on this board. I don't have any alliances or even acquaintances on here. I usually read posts without any participation. I mainly look on here because any bits of news are posted up before I hear about them elsewhere by those that trawl the news sites (which I don't have the time to do). I wouldn't really categorise myself or others who post on here. I offer my opinion and as with life in general, some people agree with you and some just don't matter.
For the record though I actually respect as many on here that I disagree with as those that I agree with. More so in some cases. It's easy to go along with popular opinion, sticking your head above the parapit for the simple reason that it's what you think deserves respect when you are pretty sure others will not agree and some jump on your comments. But arguing is healthy. It means we all have opinions, some of which differ. In my experience, it's good to argue as long as its constructive and doesn't become personal.
I've already acknowledged I was wrong to just negatively dismiss the original post. I don't feel the need to repeat myself

In many ways we're just the same as fans of any other club but being in London, where all the big clubs are across the river and all the media attention goes to them, they get all the fans in north and South London etc, and the population is less static than other places - people moving here from all over with allegiances to other clubs already formed, all this gives a club like ours a bit of a cult value, people aren't supporting clubs like ours for the glory.

There is more opportunity for getting something like the HF going and having the impact on the wider atmosphere generally. It's no accident that has happened at Palace and not, for example, Spurs - whose own "ultras" style group has not been accommodated by their club in the same way and has clearly not improved their atmosphere generally.

But yeah, the longer we are in the prem, getting more successful, of course you get more fans who are only interested because of what league we're in. The spread of the atmosphere could become diluted then, but hopefully we won't end up like all the rest of the prem grounds - sterile apart from the biggest games.

Of course we have the right to express an opinion. The point is to say something like 'why do I find you boring?' expresses an opinion but gives it no substance and is abusive too. Why is the thread boring? Nothing personal about asking that nor stating that the actual post (why do I find you boring?) is in itself boring! However, you have redeemed yourself with some great repartee. A bit self-defensive though, that suggest you may not have felt completely happy with your original post. But love you Est1950

Changed the date. Found an old centenary scarf last night I didn't know I had. But aren't we trying to claim we were established in 1861?

Anyway, for someone aged 109 it's good to see that Est remains a very lucid poster.
