A five part investigation by the Times into the future of english footall starting today.

Last weekend only 8 english players under 22 started in the premier league matches including Zaha. 3 of them were born overseas

Would Palace benefit and be more competative if there was a homegrown under21 quota in the starting line up of the premier league?

i have always argued that Old tired Prem players should not be allowed to play in the lower leagues. Its stealing opportunities from young talent - and so the numbers of local players going up to the Prem ( from the Championship ) is vastly diminished

oooooh ! If only I were in charge of the Premiere League.

Your 25 man squad would have to consist of -
12 players from within a 90 minute radius of your ground
8 players from anywhere in the UK
5 players from abroad
Then the whole of your under 21 squad should consist of under 21 home grown players.

would love to see what the premiere league table would look like after a couple of seasons.

All of Celtic's team that won the European Cup back in the sixties were born within 20miles of Parkhead and on tuppence ha'penny a week.

Oh how I dream of a league where teams represent their local communities. Watching Fred from the 'four feathers', lad Johnny running out in the red of blue.

I don't think it would...I think it would bring more English players into the Game.

I can't see the premier league imposing a restriction on the number of foreign players - not only would it ruin their global branding image but it is arguably discriminatory to have restrictions based on nationality.
