its a tough call for sure, just think winding up players always comes back to haunt you, remember the coca cola cup semi final when we were leading liverpool and the papers had clinton saying it was easy or words to that effect? they hammered us in second leg!

Remember it well. Motor mouth Clinton had questioned Owen's finishing. Was at Anfield for the second leg. Every time he got the ball he received so much abuse he ended up playing like he'd been on the piss for 24 hours. He was substituted pretty early as he clearly couldn't hack it.

It was the lumping the whole of the HF together as a vile lot of Ultras, with no knowledge of the history of this group that annoyed me. Who knows, it may well be down to the likes of him constantly banging on about us being stripey nigels, that may have steered the group into adding a hostility towards the opposition, aside their fantastic support towards our own team.

History? They've only been going a few years!

Blimey time does fly, I'll concede I did not realise its as long as 10 although to be fair you still don't establish much credible history in ten years.

Do managers not ask fans to make their home games a hostile fortress. I was at the game just behind the HF lads, so haven't seen the tv images of it but Durham is saying it was vile and disgusting. I don't know how he could tell what was being said. Since when were you not allowed to barrack the opposition and put them off.

I also found weird the fact that Durham was slagging us off for 'vile abuse' when I'm sure he wasn't at the game. Yeah, the coin throwing was right to condemn, but he has no right to make assumptions on what was being said in fairness...

in all fairness to durham you didnt need to be sat with them to realise the enthusiasm and animation put into the insults towards rooney when he took corners.

the HF are great, and do an amazing job...but dont halgf let themselves down sometimes.

its all very big to aim what im assuming is vile abuse at rooney...but if you did that kind of thing in the street you would end up in hospital!

Which is why it is true when people say that football often brings out the worst in people. It is the tribal connections that lead to people saying things they never really would outside of a football environment. Is that ok? That's subjective but I think I's best leave it there...

thing is a bit of banter is 1 thing...but on more than one occasion the HF members right at the front looked like a bunch of caged animals properly chomping at the bit...that for me anyway, was a bit embarrassing as a palace fan.

if they had just all chanted the "whos the scouser in the wig?" chant it wouldav been a lot better.

its amazing what 5 pints and cheap coke can do to somebodies mindset...eh?

Vile? Vile is Man U and Millwall fans. Rooney was always going to something great after signing a new deal. Man Utd in general are scum of football. Money buys everything, a global business who given half the chance would join some super break away league without a second thought for the clubs left behind. Except any kind of physical abuse, including coins, they got what they deserved.

Yes 3 points. They were (unfortunately) better than us at playing football for those 90 minutes.
