Isn't this the sort of thing that people get wound up about because they think it's expected of them without stopping to think if this is worth getting wound up about? Let them do what they want. Who gives a monkeys? In all honesty no Palace fans are upset that he kicked a t***. Whilst absolutely tragic about Paul Nixon it wasn't Cantona that murdered him. It happened 3 months afterwards and was the result of a mob of evil thugs. To say the event wouldn't have happened if Cantona hadn't kicked a fan is surely a massive assumption.

So did you agree that C#ntona was right to assault our fan? Yes he got abused but sorry his actions were a total disgrace and unacceptable as was his punishment of a six month ban and teaching football to kids as community service.
That was most certainly linked to the very unfortunate death of a fellow fan.
If a man on the street goes upto someone and kung fu kicks someone he would get a sentence!
There are some decent United fans but im sorry they are an unsavory bunch in general.

GT

Not at all Geoff. Cantonas actions were totally inexcusable under any circumstances. What I was trying to say is the reason people are getting upset about the proposed masks is because a small number of very unsavoury Man U fans were responsible for the death of a palace fan, not because Cantona kicked a fan. The actions of a few thugs don't reflect the entire fan base. If they did all palace fans would be arseholes after those pensioners were attacked after the Hull game. The Man U fans will be wearing masks because the fixture prompts memories of a hero of the club by a moment that will always be remembered in the premiership history books. Not because they want to rub salt into the wounds of poor Paul Nixon's family and friends. Insensitive of them? Maybe unintentially. Overly sensitive of us? I guess that's open to debate.

As a young fan ( 18 ) I wasn't alive to see the kick by Cantona but I do know my fair share about palace so know about the events surrounding it.

Tbh I don't think we should sink to their level, we have been given nationwide praise for our support this year so why ruin that.

Man Utd fans are mostly glory hunters and it is disgusting that they tried to disclaim Nixon's death as a 'myth'.

We just need to outsing the opposition as per usual and bring more misery to their already sh1te season

Yes mate.

I also remember in the cup semi final replay at Villa Park that year they had a huge poster parodying a Nike ad Cantona was in. Atmosphere was completely hostile and no surprise when Keane (Ireland) and Patterson (N.Ireland) went at it and got sent off.

Scummers the lot of 'em

Has anybody asked Paul Nixon's family if they want to be a part of this?

There was meant to be a agreement that they wouldn't sing about Cvntona, which they didn't adhere to, so yup I agree with you, scummers the lot of 'em. And let's not forget them kicking seven colours out of us at the final replay and saying we were cloggers.

Don't remember it that well then, Keane got sent off for stamping on Southgate...

Indeed he did. But didn't Patterson then pile in and get sent off too ?

The reason I hate Roy Keane more than any other person on this planet. Majority of Palace fans boycotted the reply as it just didnt seem right to carry on as normal after Paul Nixons death. A huge banner with R.I.P Paul Nixon was displayed in the end where the Palace fans would have been. A minute silence mostly upheld and then Keane deliberately stamped on Southgate. Utter cnut with no respect for anything or anyone other than himself. Would love to meet him face to face and let him know how wrong that was on so many levels, then headbutt him and stamp on his head.

Interesting seeing Wilmot in goal (Nige was out as he had his arm broken by McClair who came in late - no booking and then Nige had to kick the ball out before the ref stopped play). Of vourse we have always been a physical (dirty) team, if only refs would listten to saf. Ferguson also blamed Cantona's madness on him? no of course not on the ref for not stamping down on us.
I am in the Upper Holmesdale and will sing or at least try to more than usual.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).
