Firstly, imo he (Altonwood) killed The Addington Golf Club and Mrs Fabes would be spinning in her grave.

She was at least as big a nutter as Ron, frankly. If ever two dictators saw each other coming, that particular transaction was a case of Hitler passing the baton to Stalin.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

I knew her for 25 years, if you played by her rules you were ok. Be late or rude and she asked you to leave. Fond memories of getting a slapped head for telling one of her peacocks to pi55 off!

I refuse to believe there are that many people out there that can't spell. Too f**king lazy, that's what I think.

So Mr Noades remains as devisive as ever. Some see him as "God's Gift" others an "asset stripper". Maybe what we all learn from this is that if a statue is going to be put up to anyone then the person has to be uncontroversial.

Notwithsatnding the right of the owners to do what the hell they like...

Taking the bungy jump since 1964. Never to see John Jackson in a shirt again

Sorry to see Lee Hills go, did we ever see Alex Marrow? We did January 2013

Yes. I suspect she'd practised by slapping Alan upside the head on a fairly regular basis. They were a fairly arbitrary set of rules but, with that said, it was a magnificent golf course (although there those who said she ran it into the ground, too. I think history always favours posterity). Ron brought Euan Campbell back to Addington initially, didn't she? He had been Bill Mitchell's assistant under Moira.

Of course, there's another Addington connection with Palace. If I recall rightly, Franklin Buckley, who was a member of the golf club (and I think one of Moira's captains at one point) was also a member of the Palace board in the Bloye years.

My old man's been a member at the Addington for many years including one as Captain. His take is that Moira did indeed run the place down, no money was ever spent on the facilities and the course beyond what was absolutely necessary. Ron came in and improved the place with some investment, but he whacked up the Membership fees and, shall we say, wasn't quite as discerning as Moira with who would be allowed to join. As with everything with Ron, there was good and there was bad.

Goodness is what you do. Not who you pray to.
