Not many will have seen Billy Callender (except perhaps on Pathe news footage) but he was the greatest penalty-saver of all time. Unfortunately, he was prone to injury. The was something very odd about the inquest into Callender's tragic death - it was held just a few days after his death and before his funeral. Incredibly, no evidence was heard from the last people to see him - his fellow Palace players. There was not even a tribute to him in the next Palace match programme. Shameful! IMO, the full explanation for his death has not come to light. Was there some kind of cover-up? For his funeral, the streets of Prudhoe (his home town) was lined with mourners. On his gravestone, there is nothing to say that he had been a footballer who played for Palace.

Last thought on this goalie thread. Did anyone see Mike Hunt play?
Clinton is Clinton. I have known him for a long time, I know his mother... Simon Jordan |

Yes. If I remember rightly he and Jackson played about half the games each in the 64-65 season after Glazier left. I'm pretty sure Millington was a Welsh international. I was a bit young to notice much about his technique but he was a decent keeper I think. Anthony Horace Millington was indeed a Welsh International making 21 appearances for Wales. He was bought in to replace Bill Glazier but unfortunately for him it was at the same time Jacko was beginning to flourish and fell out of favour. He went on to play lots of games in for Peterborough and then Swansea. He had a goalkeeping brother called G G G Grenville.
