2 photos of Rash the Smash that sum him up perfectly. The second is on the next message.

This one has a narrative which I hope you can read on the scan but if not, here it is:-

"7.10.72. Library picture of Rachid Harkouk, 22, one of two CP soccer players being questioned today by Scotland Yard detectives investigating alleged forged currency deals. Harkouk & Barry Silkman, 24, spent last night at Dalston Police Station in East London, and this morning were still helping with enquiries. Harkouk, rated at £300,000 and Football League 2nd Division top scorer, with 9 goals this season, was detained by police at his home in Chiswick."

This photo shows Rash the Smash in brilliant and typical action in 1978, although this shot went past the post.

I was at that Fulham game and can still hear the awful sound of Evans' leg breaking. Harkouk raced to Best and grabbed him by the throat. He'd have killed him if he hadn't been dragged off.

Such a shame we sold him, he'd have been magic a year later in our fantastic young team.

I was in the stand at the game with Fulham when George Best broke Ian Evans leg and I can tell you that was no accident.

Marred my respect for Best as he was an outstanding talent.

37 years ago but the memory is till clear in my head!

Me too. Evans was developing as a very special talent too.

I was 14 at the time, and me and my mate got our parents to let us go to Wrexham away on the coach.
What a night that was!

2 up. Pulled back to 2-2 by a very good Wrexham side in which Alan Whittle's brother and Joey Jones were playing (if I remember correctly).

The reason for my User name is down to the great Jeff Bourne who scored that night, and contributed around 10 goals in a shoert period of time that season.

Coach was bricked after the game too....

Rachid Harkouk was a super exciting talent.

One of my favourite memories of him was scoring one of the goals at the Gallstone in the 2-2 FA Cup draw versus the Weed. We were in the SouthnStand with the Brighton fans. There was a long ball over the top, Rachid was running towards us. He trapped it on his thogh as it came over his head and smashed the ball into the net. What a goal that was!

Great days!

A new era of total football is on the way to Selhurst Park!!
