Having been following Palace since 1964 I have witnessed all seven of Palace's promotions to Division One/Premiership. For those of you who have been around for a long time does any one of those particular promotion seasons stand out for you as being the most satisfying. Looking back there have been campaigns where we have largely led from the front or thereabouts i.e. 68/69, 78/79, 93/94. But there have been those where we have come up the blindside like in 2003/2004 under Dowie when we were down near the bottom in December. I will for the moment put aside the campaign just finished as it is so fresh in the memory and consequently hard to judge dispassionately at the moment. For me 68/69 and 78/79 stand out. The first simply because it was our first promotion to the top, and the second, because of the stylish manner in which we won the championship that year.

I'd put this year's alongside the 88/9 one; play off, goals, wingers, erratic defence. Maybe joint top in the "most exciting" stakes. Best team - 78/9 without a doubt. Most romantic - 68/9. Most unexpected - 2003/4. Most emphatic - 93/4. Most anticipated and expected - 1996/7.
