One of my Palace regrets - I started going just after Jacko (and Don Rogers) had been released and Paul Hammond came in for him so never saw him (or Don) in the flesh.

That's what I love about football. This man is a real hero to many of us, each with our own memories of him - yet he was playing 40 years ago. I was gutted when Bill Glazier left, but not for too long. Happy birthday Jacko and I hope you are well where ever you are.

my brother John Golden sadly died in 2010 saw jackson , martyn and all the others palace keepers said that jackson was top class in a poor palace team at a time when england had world class keepers at the time gordon banks and young peter shilton and if jackson was around in the post david seaman days he would of got into england team easily much better than rob green and david james and joe hart , because jackson played for a team that was at bottom of top flight team he was over looked the big mistake big mal made was putting in hammond and kicking out jackson to orient .

I remember being devasted when Bill Glazier was sold to Coventry &, if memory serves me right, Tony Millington was brought in from WBA to take over. It wasn't long before Jacko saw off all comers & made the no 1 jersey his which was very apt as he definitely was number 1 when it comes to Palace keepers past & present.

I remember that disgraceful challenge Joe Royal made on Jackson, too - if he did that today he'd be banned for life. Seen some great, great goalkeepers at Palace (and haven't we needed them!) - from Roy Bailey to Bill Glazier, John Burridge to the marvellous Julian Speroni. But John Jackson tops the lot. Brilliant keeper.

Always had happy memories of watching Jackson play for us.Made even better by the fact he got the same train down to the coast after matches as I did.You could just walk up and down the carraiges until you found him/get an autograph etc. He just sat amongst all the passengers anonymous to most of them as to who he was.He lived in Hove for many years and may well still do so.
