Crystal Palace 1 - Manchester City 0

My first ever game at Selhurst Park. Palace were in the first division (now the Premier League) and we won by just the one goal (a Man City O.G.). John Jackson saved a penalty and the follow up and generally showed what a great keeper he was. Four months later Palace beat the other Manc team 5-0 at Selhurst!!

We had the famous whit kit with two broad stripes (claret and blue) separated by an inch (very similar in design to this year's!!) with yellow number on the back.

Does anyone else remember this game?

Indeed I do and in particular the 5-0 drubbing of Utd, that was the season they got relegated if my memory serves me well...Denis Law sent them down, as for Johnny Jackson he was a quality keeper and remember when he "Retired" he climbed into the holmesdale end (Then standless of course)and joined the fans, class act. I do remember attending that game. The side we had at the beginning of that season looked weak and likely candidates for relegation. But, during the autumn Bert Head strengthened the side with the likes of Don Rogers and Alan Whittle, and I seem to recall Charlie Cooke and Paddy Mulligan coming in around this time as well.

The outcome - relegation!

As I have pointed out in another thread, it was ironic that the "best" team we had in our four years in the top flight was the one that got relegated.
