Despite not being a great night for us, thought i'd post this up as it still holds some interest.

I believe this was the first time in 2 seasons a Palace game had been featured on TV, so you get to see a few players that never got much of an airing like Kevin 'ticker' Taylor, Anton Otulokowski, Gary Stebbing and Ken O'Doherty. Also featuring a very young and raw Ian Wright, in only his second season in professional football. Highlight too is a right spat between George Wood and Gavin Nebbeling.

The replay came after an electric evening at Selhurst when we drew 2-2 to a high flying Forest side - top of Div 1 at the time i think. Remember Irvine's free kick opener very well - shame that hadn't been televised.

10 days after this game we played Ipswich at home, the day the Bright and Wright partnership was born.

Bubbs, once again thank you very much. I remember the match well. It was a spirited performance both on and off the pitch.
This cup match took place in the middle of a five match losing streak in the league where, it must be noted, there were no calls for the managers head, and the fans faith was rewarded with the good times which followed soon after. Hopefully, the same will happen again soon after all the rubbish the fans had to put up with watching at the end of last season.

The week leading up to this Forest replay, Steve Coppell met Leicester City reserve forward Mark Bright at Watford Gap service station to discuss a possible loan move to Palace.

By this time Bright had made his mind up to leave Filbert Street, mainly due to baracking from the home support - some of it racist. He'd had talks with Hull and some other clubs but didn't feel it was right for him. Within 10 minutes of talking to Sir Steve he felt this was the move for him. Sir Steve also told him about this young raw kid from non-league that he wanted him to play alongside and help develop, saying that he was one of the most exciting players he had ever worked with! Bare in mind this was Steve Coppell of Manchester United and England fame.

Sir Steve told Bright to come along to this Forest match and see what he thought before deciding to move to Selhurst.

After the game Bright said to Coppell that he wasn't sure where he'd fit in as Gray and Wright looked a good pairing up front. Coppell said not to worry as he was going to put Gray into midfield.

Wow.. as interesting (and I must stress it's my opinion) as a bore draw against Barnsley on a wet, cold Tuesday night.

Does this thread mean we are going to have memories of every game EVER played by Palace.

.....bring on the zzzzzzzzz's.

Hi Wrighty, no not at all. It was just that I was very grateful to be reminded of a match that I attended as a 19 year old, it brought back great memories for me.
As Bubbs also stated, it was about for only time in a 4 year spell from '84 to '88 that Palace were actually on the telly, so it would surely have been of interest to lots of Palace fans, otherwise there wouldn't be so many books published about the history of the club.
This website is a very broad church, which covers all aspects of been a Palace fan, and lots of the threads,ie, who should we sign, who shouldn't we sign, lets sack the manager after every defeat, who are our rivals, etc carry no interest for me. But then that is only my opinion. Have a nice day
