Thanks i have seen Ron's profile on the site,it's a bit of an ask but does anyone have the list of opponents he played against and the teams he scored against, also looking for any pictures of him during hs playing career, thanks again toby65

He played 50 games in all and scored 13 goals. It's a bit difficult to list them all on here but when I get a chance I can give you a list of the games in which he scored. He appeared to like playing against QPR!

His full record is shown in Crystal Palace - A complete record by Mike Purkiss with Nigel Sands. It's for sale on Amazon but is not cheap. Also Nigel wrote a book 'Crystal Palace The A-Z' which contains a photo of Ron.

Here goes:-

He made his debut v Millwall (a), the day before his 18th birthday, on 3rd September 1955. He was clearly a good prospect then and played 13 games in that season but, maybe due to injury, didn't play again for over 2 years.

5th September 1955 3-0 v QPR (a) 2 goals
16th April 1958 2-3 v QPR (h) 1 goal
19th April 1958 2-4 v QPR (h) 1 goal
11th October 1958 v 3-1 Gateshead (h) 2 goals
8th November 1958 4-1 v Gillingham (h) 2 goals
30th March 1959 2-0 v Torquay (a) 1 goal
15th April 1959 1-3 v Exeter (a) 1 goal
18th April 1959 4-3 v Shrewsbury (h) 1 goal
25th April 1959 4-1 v Darlington (a) 1 goal
7th April 1962 2-2 v Coventry (h) 1 goal

His most prolific season for Palace was 58-59 when he scored 8 goals in 15 league games and was then signed by West Ham. It would be interesting to see what his record was there.

In 2 seasons Ron played 12 games with 4 goals for West Ham.

Maybe the reason he missed 2 years at Palace between 1955 and 1957 was National Service?

Very sad story indeed and I hope the OP is pleased with the responses.
Fair play Palace fans. Certainly the best in the land.

P.s. Say hi to Tom for me!

I'll never forget the day that Danny Butterfield scored that hattrick.
And when Ambrose scored that worldy at Old Trafford.

The comment about missing games because of national service is unlikely, most pros played every week for their clubs--Johnny Byrne for example played for us on a regular basis during his two years.

Appeared regularly for First XI and reserves in 1955-56 season.
First programme of 1956-57 season says Ron Brett is unable to play as away on National Service. I find no
mention of Ron in team line-ups for the First XI or Reserves until a reserve game in October 1957.

When I did my national service all the pro footballers played in league games they may have been refused time for reserve football or perhaps no games at all during their basic square bashing.
