My father was as much a Millwall fan as I am a Palace fan. When I was 4 yrs old he took me to see my first ever game,Millwall v Crewe in the old 4th division. The lions had got worse and worse over the previous years and my dad wad at the end of his tether. The game was a very very poor 0-0 draw and after and hour he said'come on son I'll never come back here again' and he never did!
Of course the next week I wanted to go to football and luckily my next door neighbour Johnny Vines was a Palace fan said he would take me.We won 3-2 against Oldham and the rest is history as they say.I've now seen over 1000 games.
Anyone know of the whereabouts of Johnny Vines he was a good mate of the famous WIZ?He of the huge afro.

This may seem slightly bizarre to most people but this is my story. Take it how you will.

Background

I was born in Northampton

My mum & dad split up when i was 2

Moved to Leamington Spa (which is about 10 miles away from Coventry) when i was 4.

Moved down to Eltham in September because im at greenwich uni.

My mum's side of the family just don't like football, apart from my little brother (he's 10) who supports Coventry because its local.

My dad's side of the family family is split right in half between those who support Chelsea and those who support Palace.

Story

I did what every kid does and began supporting Manure when i was about 7. For about a year. Then i had a short stint (about 2 weeks) at supporting Palace because my dad did, then, when i was about 8 i started supporting Spurs because my best mate did. I supported them for about 2 months then while i was still 8, for some bizarre reason (i really can't remember why) i started supporting Blackburn. I supported them for 2 years until i actually started to understand football and in 1994 i looked at my family and decided that i was going to continue the tradition and support either Palace or Chelsea. My dad's wife, my uncle (who i don't particularly like) and my grandad support Chelsea. (There are others who support both but i can't really remember). However, both my dad and my cousin (who is also one of my best mates) support palace, so i decided to go with them. So the season that i decide to support Palace and stop supporting Blackburn, Blackburn win the Premiership (this was after i stopped supporting them, just so u don't think im a glory hunter) and Palace win Division 1. Ave it!. The first Palace match i went to, was the Playoff final in '97, i think (i don't remember) when we won against, i think it was Sheffield United. I then went to a match in 98 when we played Wimbledon because my uncle sponsored the match ball, we sat in the wimbledon directors box because it was supposed to be an 'away' match at wimbledon but i remember distinctly Mr Lombardo scoring in the 89th minute and the entire box got up and started cheering and celebrating. Not one person in that directors box was supporting the squaters, which was hilarious. Anyway, I haven't looked back since and have supported Palace for 8, nearly 9 years.

There you go. You asked.

E

I supported my local team. Unlike a lot of the Arsenal and Moan U fans I went to school with.

I was abducted by aliens in my home town of Hengelo, The Netherlands, at the age of 9. When they were done they dropped me in the middle of Croydon by mistake. Hence my love for Crystal Palace...

No, seriously, I'm a son of Italian and Spanish immigrants living in Holland. No ties with England whatsoever. At the age of 15 I watched the FA Cup final live on TV which was about the only English football game on Dutch TV. It was the year 1990 and Manchester United were playing a team called Crystal Palace. I fell in love immediately and kept following Palace ever since...

I supported Palace since I was around 8, when I went to my first Palace game. Been one for 7 years now. Not an interesting story I know, but I can't remember back to when I was 8 - I'm 15 now. Been a season ticket since I was 10.

I live in Charlton, but I don't support their team. I get some stick for being the only Palace fan in Year 10, because many of the other students support Chelsea, Charlton, Arsenal and Man Utd. Only a handful support M***wall.

try being a girl in yr 10 down in brighton!! now, that is bad!

Dragan,

Have only just logged back on to monitor progress of some of the posts, but in answer to your question I just wake up at 5.00am without any alarm call and it is a good time to catch up on holmesdale.net.
My insomnia is probably caused by the worry of a wife, four kids and being a Palace supporter. That's enough to keep anyone awake.

Certainly is mate! Have 3 less kids than you and I still cant sleep!

Supported Palace since 1988 as wanted a local team to follow. Also had Family living in Brixton so that was nearest to any sort of Club and it was an exciting time..now I would NEVER support anyone else and feel part of something very important..a community of people who are just like me..passionate and want Palace to do well.

Born St Mary's Hospital, Broad Green so destined to follow local club. First game I saw was against Chelsea in Div 1 in early 1970's. We lost 3-2 as I recall. I used to stand at the front of the Holmesdale banging the boards to Glad all over. Halcyon days!!
