Everyone is entitled to my opinions

I really can't believe some of the opinions of some people on here.
I worked in a refuge for a while and some of the stories were absolutely horrendous. Apart from the physical abuse it's also what it does to a person mentally and to say that they bring it on themselves is absolutely appalling and very, very wrong (that is usually the mentality of either an abuser or someone who knows f*** all about d/v).

A women that is being abused very often believes all the apologies, the recriminations, the 'it'll never happen again's until she's so mentally scarred that she hasn't the emotional strength to be able to leave. She will feel totally alone.
She has to believe that there will be somebody that understands her and will be able to help before she can leave and she very often feels there is no way out - and like alcoholics no-one can help unless she see's the full extent of the problem herself.

And then there are the kids that can be involved ....and that's a whole other story!

What I would say though is be careful before getting involved. Maybe point her in a direction or inform someone that can help but if you don't know everything involved you could well be way out of your depth!
