There’s footage of Guehi being asked by presumably a Palace fan whether he’s going.
Guehi just shrugs his shoulders which, while not an unequivocal answer, gives the distinct expression that he’ll be off if a deal is agreed.
I think he’s been a consistent and tenacious performer for the club but he’s not a dominant central defender in the old school way.
Perhaps that is less relevant these days.

If Riad settles and adapts to the Premier League it will be good to have a left footed central defender to add to the balance of the team.

In an earlier message I expressed a view that we may not need another centre half if Guehi departed as we had plenty of cover.
I think this may be wrong.
Richards got a knock today and was substituted.
The extent of the injury to Richards is unclear but if Guehi does leave we start to look short if Richards is out for any length of time.

If Guehi leaves, which seems very likely, he will need to be replaced. Once you get past the current first choice three the quality drops a fair bit: Riad, looks promising but unknown quantity at this level; Lerma, can definitely do job there; Holding, not seen enough of him to know; Clyne, surprisingly effective but would you really want him as a regular starter; and Ward, can do a job in an emergency but, again I wouldn’t be comfortable seeing him start regularly. If Guehi leaves Lacroix seems the most likely replacement.

Lacroix is more of an unknown quantity than Riad. At least Riad is already here & getting minutes in.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Really, Terry Fenwick got 20

I would prefer the experience of mark at the back and his experience than a replacement who is thrown in with no time to understand to premiership.
Think with mark staying could be worth 9 more points at the end of the season.

Not unknown to Glasner.

Marc

He is certainly quality and it seems some on here don’t realise to what extent. Goes about his business efficiently and with little fanfare. Generally almost perfect.

I never understood how Fenwick got even one cap. I distinctly remember him at half back running around like a headless chicken chasing the player with the ball as if it was a primary schoolyard match. Can't remember who we were playing against.

However, I don't fully agree with your assessment of Guehi apart from his weakness in the air (as was evident today with Nantes goal. In fact, I think Glasner may have had the right idea in the Villa game - Guehi could make a very accomplished DM.

Your perceptions of this player were contradictory to a certain extent.
