I haven’t. I saw the first remarks though. What a contrast to Trump. Smiles and humility rather than anger and self importance.

Optics matter and she scores heavily over Trump in them.

It’s early days and she has the benefit of a honeymoon bounce but the first poll since Biden withdrew and endorsed Harris puts her 2% ahead.

Happy days!

Yes. What an orator. And ten out of ten for her grasp of the situation.

‘Ukraine is a country in Europe. It exists next to another country called Russia. Russia is a bigger country. Russia is a powerful country. Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine. So basically that’s wrong.’

Crickey Wisbech.

“Anger and self Importance”/. The guy has just has the top of his ear blown off from bullets that were suppose to be lodged in the middle of his face. Show some humility and give the guy a break.

In any event, if there was an angry divisive party, from what I’ve seen your party the Democrats wins hands down. (or do you just cheer when such statements are made and hold up your ‘nasty Trump’ placard from your sofa in Cornwall?)

Firstly, there is significant doubt that any bullet touched his ear! That aside he deserves the utmost sympathy for being shot at and relief for his good luck.

The remarks about Trump are not directed at the events of the last week though. They are directed at his attitude over the past years, ever since he came to public attention.

My party is not the Democrats. I don’t have a party and have been comfortable with Presidents from both in the past. My objection is not to the Republicans. It’s to Trump and populism. If the Republicans are able to regain their soul and produce a decent, responsible candidate who protected and respected democracy then they could well find favour with me.

Trump is not a nice guy, but that’s not the issue. It’s that he is totally unfit for high office. He is a danger to democracy, the western world and ultimately to our survival.

You may think that’s OTT, but I and many others don’t. So don’t be surprised when negative things are said about him. It’s serious.

I haven’t yet heard the speech or read a transcript. I have read a summary and neither those words, or sentiments, were mentioned. I did hear her opening remarks.

There was a lot about abortion rights and attacking Trump for wanting to live in the past and being a felon.

Harris was an advocate and it showed. Putting her up against Trump and letting her question him will be interesting. Just so long as it’s properly moderated so he cannot bully and dominate, as he likes to.

When he is tying her in knots you will say it’s bullying and when she hasn’t got an answer you will say it’s dominating. It’s a no win for trump with that mindset.

Harris is famous for her world salad. All politicians will do this at one time however she has plenty of form.

I also learned today that when she stood against Biden for the nomination she didn't even win one primary. Hardly a ringing endorsement.

As I have said previously she will have to raise her game considerably to convince the American people.

My remark was directed at the need for strong moderation. Maybe you don’t remember how Trump behaved in the debates with Clinton.

He talked over her and then left his podium to stand over her and pull stupid faces.

Asking difficult questions is fine, but time must be available for the answers to be given. Having the mikes muted when it’s not your time makes sense and introduces some control.

A moderator needs to have the same kind of power that a Judge has in their court room. Imagine a trial in which the accused or the prosecutor could just ignore the Judge.

There are enormous differences now. Most importantly she has the whole weight of her Party behind her. She’s not competing to get it. There will be big money to spread the messages. She isn’t doing this on her own any more.

She was a novice in the primaries, but had done well to be in them. Now she has 4 years to learn, including, I understand, extensive media training.

She was an effective advocate and prosecutor so experienced in asking the right questions and picking holes in answers. That skill will be very useful in dealing with Trump. You have seen this already with her categorising herself as the prosecutor who is familiar with felons like Trump.

Trump’s response will need to be sharp and on a different level to that he has employed before. Is he capable of that? I very much doubt it and yesterday’s “Lying Kamala” taunt looks pathetic and tired.

Wisbech

I’m not sure why the Left constantly says “Trump is a threat to democracy” which looks pathetic and tired.

You also repeat that troupe above. Is it because he has a different view to you and you therefore want to shut him down? When you analyse it, people who peddle these twaddle sound bites are the undemocratic ones.

Trump has many flaws but a threat to democracy is not one of them. The reverse is in fact true.

I don’t mean to hound you but you also say above;

“Firstly, there is significant doubt that any bullet touched his ear…”

Can you elaborate on this please including any evidence to back it up.
