I think we can see why Palace took out a short term loan a few months back. It was obvious that the bigger clubs would come calling but Parish can play hard ball as we already have the funds for replacements.

It wont stop serious bidders but the tyre kickers and the player swap merchants will have their work cut out to get our players.

I would be surprised if either Arsenal or Spurs offer serious money for our guys hence the player swap talk. It's the Manchester clubs and Liverpool who concern me.

In terms of the team and manager next season this has so far proved to be a difficult summer.

1) The top Bayern executive and former player, Hoeness , has said that Glasner had discussions and wanted the Bayern job a few weeks ago but that Palace wouldn’t release him.
Great, he’s staying at the moment ,but the pull of one of the world’s great clubs back in Germany must have been a great draw for Glasner and his staff.
Let’s hope he’s fully committed to Palace while he’s here.

2) Pre season is being disrupted by so many being away on international duty - Henderson, Guehi, Wharton, Eze, Anderson, Richards, Munoz, Lerma, Mateta.
That’s 9 first team players and it will be interesting to see if any of them join the pre season tour to America.

3) So far we’ve only lost Olise, but Guehi looks to be on his way and possibly Eze.
Ozoh has gone on loan with JRS likely to follow.
We’ve brought in Kamada, Riad and possibly Sessegnon, but the first two are new to the country and the Premier League and the latter is injury prone.
We’re also strongly linked with long term target , Sarr, and this time it looks as if it may happen.

It’s going to be a very difficult balancing act to replicate the form at the end of last season after such a disruptive summer.
Patience is likely to be needed while the new team/squad beds down.

Relax people .All summers are disruptive or not depending on how much you listen to the rumour mill.

To date we have lost Olise and we knew that was on the cards anyway .Everyone else of note is under contract for at least another two years .
Depends how much the club needs the money or how Glasner sees his squad on any more departures .

I don't believe the Glasner /Bayern rumour , if they wanted him they would have approached him last year when they knew Tuchel was leaving and Glasner was out of work . Why wait until they would have to pay Palace millions in compo ?

Hows Doucoure getting on ? There were rumours last season that it might be nearer Christmas than the KO in August for him

The Hoeness direct quote
' We spoke with Glasner.
He was very keen on joining FC Bayern, absolutely keen. But his club did not release him.'
Of course he could be telling a lie, but it seems unclear what he would have to gain from such a lie.

Of course he would have expressed his interest to FC Bayern, that is a question of politeness and a question of not closing the door to possible moves in the (more distant) future. How would you react if you were approached, even if you had no intention of accepting the invitation (as more prominent managers have obviously done) at this time? OG has earned his reputation by taking teams from the second tier a step further. He will realise that a premature move to Bayern risks ruining his reputation in a short space of time. A manager's job at Bayern requires more political skills than that of a football manager, not to mention the stress of managing a team like Bayern. He can deal with demanding presidents, biting criticism in the press headlines, rebellious stars and annoying PR campaigns on a daily basis. All in all he doesn't have much to lose if he stays with us (and won't starve given his current salary) for the time being, but a lot to lose if he leaves prematurely for a top club.

In the absence of a direct quote from Glasner this is conjecture.
Furthermore, if it was such a tentative and polite inquiry why would, as Hoeness suggests, it have got to the stage where Palace would have refused Glasner's release?
All this assumes of course that Hoeness is telling the truth.

Yes, of course it's conjecture. But if I were Glasner, I wouldn't say anything else. If I'm invited to a party, don't go because I don't want to, and the host thinks I'm suffering terribly from not being at his party, I won't say anything either. But of course it can be completely different. My personal assessment of the circumstances of coaching Bayern is probably not Glasner's and I could be completely wrong. And if he wants to go there straight away and thinks that he can do it there and that it will be a great success for him, that's fine by me. But they have Kompany now anyway, so they won't immediately throw him out just because of Glasner. On the other hand, nothing can be ruled out with them ........

Quite a negative evaluation of the situation. Here's my take on your points.

1) Bayern are among the biggest clubs in world football, it would be bizarre if he wasn't interested in managing them. He's not though, he's staying here and I'm sure will be completely committed to the upcoming season.

2) Lots of other clubs are missing multiple players as well. Surely it's better to have international quality players in the squad?

3) It's absolutely far from certain that Eze and Guehi leave. It's all newspaper speculation at the moment. As it stands the only notable first team departure is Olise and when you consider that we've brought in Riad and Kamada as well as probably Sarr and Sessegnon, I'd argue that's a stronger squad overall.

Season doesn't start for another month and with more signings likely to come, I reckon we'll be in a very strong position to challenge the top eight this year.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...
