I remember him coming on telly after Corbett died and saying nice stuff. I doubt they loathed each other, just two difficult people.

It's like Charles Hawtrey, someone who by all accounts, wasn't very likeable in real life but made people laugh and/or smile and that's a talent worth a pool of sins.

Hawtrey was camper than an outside loo...made Kenneth Williams look like a caveman.

Charles Hawtrey was allegedly far too camp for Kenneth Williams liking. Williams thought he lacked dignity and class.
Maybe Hawtrey just got more shags ?

Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce (Cream).
"When drummer Baker asked Eric Clapton to form a new band with him, Clapton agreed on the condition that Jack Bruce be the bassist. This was disturbing to Ginger as he and Bruce had played together in Bond’s group and for some reason, couldn’t stand each other. At one point, Baker even pulled a knife on Bruce. (Rumor has it that just before he passed away, Bruce called Baker on the phone, said “f*** you, I’m dying,” and hung up.)

Hawtrey used to get blind drunk on set and pick up sailors in his spare time. He insisted on getting top billing on a TV special or he would quit, and they let him do just that. He never did any Carry On again.

Williams was a possible suspect in the death of his father, who died of poisoning.

I bet that raised a few eyebrows.
