This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

There are very few managers in our history who have had to put up with the challenges to the team that PV had.
Firstly Gallagher returned to Chelsea. Then the pre-season was disrupted when the squad had to be split to undertake pre-Covid commitments in both Singapore and the US. Following his recovery from a long injury Eze returned but was clearly not match fit. Two months into the season HM Queen died and matches were postponed and immediately followed by an international break. In early November the World Cup started with more match postponements. Then at the beginning of February we had to take our mid-season break. Matches had to be fitted in to the programme and the TV companies decided that we should play the top teams rather than the those in the bottom half. So when Roy came in he had a very easy run in and only seven points needed to avoid relegation.
An experienced manager would have found this situation extremely challenging and I suspect PV suffered from a bout of depression. However, he did not help himself by avoiding SP and talking to Leeds, if the rumours were correct.
I certainly do not regard him as a failure.

But he was hardly a success and has now proven sub-par at three clubs
I think his positive legacy is the unknown amount of influence he had on bringing players of the quality of Olise, Guehi, Andersen, Mateta, Richards and Doucoure, amongst others, to the club. I think most people would agree that this crop is of a much higher quality than any of the squads Hodgson had in his first spell

PV gave me some of my best memories in recent times along with Alan pardew. Both tailed off at the end but I remember them both fondly.

Poppycock

I didn't believe she was devil's sperm
She said, "Curse you all, you'll never learn
When I leave there's no return."
The people laughed till she said, "Burn!"

you must have a short memory, all i remember is a shambles of a team, not focused because of the abismal training sessions that the players had to go to Parish about to stop the rot

Balderdash? As a Yank, English is foreign to me.

I liked Viera, but I'm having a difficult time deciding how good a fit he would be for our young team. He earned good reviews in New York until he didn't. In the WC, our players will need man management and motivation more than mere tactics, I think, and those player-centric skills may be PV's strength.
