I have never been totally convinced by Smith-Rowe and think there may be better options out there. My other observations about the transfer situation in general is that the financial fair play rules will take the sting out of the massively inflated market and players with supposive large price tag's will not cost so much. Whether it is this or next year this will happen i am not sure.

With the way some clubs are fiddling the rules with the use of over inflated swap deals I am not so sure. Super rich owners believe they are entitled to buy success and desperate fans are prepared to turn blind eyes if their club is involved.

Which makes our own success that much more impressive.

He is superb. But, fitness issues and poor value for the money at that price.

We should not pay a top 6 premium. Liverpool fleeced us twice and I hope the lesson was learned.

Stand aside, let Fulham have him. Ironically, with only one willing and able buyer the price might drop to an acceptable level.

I wish we would end the courtship of Smith-Rowe, once and for all. It's plain as a pikestaff that he has no interest in joining Palace. He wants to win his place in the Arsenal team and, seemingly, Arsenal is happy with that.

How do you know that? Have you spoken to him?

Taking the fee out of the equation, it really comes down to his fitness. If he stays fit I struggle to see how he wouldn't improve our team. He scores, he creates, he is full of energy, he's not afraid of a tackle. If he joined and stayed fit I imagine he'd be a £50 million player by next summer.

That's very far from the wildest assertion I've ever seen written on these boards.

The nice thing is, again, if Dougie and Ollie decide between him he's worth the money that really supersedes any of my own thoughts as far as I'm concerned. I always thought ESR looked a player and without Glasner I'd be very cautious but the more I think on it, he might be able to get the best out of him.

Local boy too so you never know.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

The unknown factor is whether or not he can still be as good as he was a few seasons ago. if he can, then he would certainly improve our squad and would be a genuine starting option. The problem as we all know is that Arsenal will over-value him, but then, I wonder how many Palace fans would have been happy to see us pay Citeh £40m for Palmer? I imagine we wouldn't baulk at paying that to Chelsea if he were available at that price today. I'm not saying Smith-Rowe is in Palmer's class - simply that just because a player isn't a starter for a top club (like Palmer wasn't at Citeh) doesn't mean they aren't good enough for us.

My guess is that Palace are interested but that they're not going to break our record transfer fee for a player who has only had a bit part for the past two seasons. This may come down to how much Arsenal actually want to sell him.

Indeed, when a player is lighting up the league fair enough, but when they are stuck on the bench they can hardly demand a huge fee

Fulham need him more as they have been shedding midfielders lately. I hope we don't get in a bidding war for him
