I Would also add that I do give Southgate credit for restoring 'hope' to the england fans. After the Hodgson tournament, faith in the england team was at an all time low, with many turning their back on the team.
He has presided over the resurgence of the England Expectation, of which that's all on him.

"It was a Team effort, I guess it took all players working together to lose this one"

Look up the thread. 3 posters agreed. So yes, somehow they do.

Leaving aside any personal opinions of him which other England managers have done better? Obviously Ramsey won the World Cup but there was no qualification and football was a different game in the Sixties. Who else? Venables, Sven, Capello, Robson, Greenwood, Hoddle and others don't really stand comparison in terms of tournament performances. Whatever anyone thinks of his style his record speaks for itself.

Wasted words. Win on Sunday and then back-to-back with the World Cup and they will still be saying he's cr@p.

(You forgot Turnip Head and "our" Roy)

All of those managers went out to the best teams in the world earlier in the tournament, or semi finals in 2 cases. If Bellingham didn’t score an overhead kick versus Slovakia in round 2 he’d have resigned or been asked to. Southgate has had the easiest routes through not just this tournament but every tournament. The team spirit and perseverance has been excellent, but he’s not fooling everyone with the intelligent analysis. Maybe we’ll miss Kalvin Phillips again on Sunday? Or will it be Maguire he kept playing leading up to the tournament? Remember Mainoo was the 3rd and probably last midfielder he was willing to ‘experiment’ with next to Rice.

Agree with all of this. The stats of two finals, semi and quarters looks good in isolation. They're not so impressive when you look at the lesser opponents we've beaten to get there.

I saw a stat yesterday showing that during Southgate's tenure in major comps we've won 3/10 against teams ranked in the top 10.
Had Bellingham not dug them out the hole against Slovenia, the team would have come home disgraced.

Talksport this morning discussing that the FA are supposedly on the charm offensive - regardless of what happens against Spain - to offer him a new contract. This is a big worry for me. I don't believe a single premier league club would touch Southgate, so why should England? Potter, Poch or Klopp would all be a huge upgrade if they wanted it.

I will give him credit for bringing on Watkins. I think the average fan would have gone for Toney. My guy feeling is that we'll grind out a win against Spain.

Footballs coming home.

Do you think they don't calculate where the most likely run to the final is? If the best way to get the easiest route is finishing 2nd in the group stage that is where we will finish.

The French. They ought to have had the easier run and would have missed the Spanish... but they finished 2nd, n'est pas.

And talking of Slovenia, remember years ago we only beat them 1-0, finished 2nd and then got stuffed by the Germans in the first knockout game?

That doesn't happen any more. Still, we don't play like Brazil 1970 so sack the manager.

I always think if one is going to attempt to be pretentious one should be accurate so as to avoid coming across as a buffoon.

A winners medal, when you didnt play a minute of the finals, is a bit worthless.

Not sure the players would agree with you. I am disappointed that Wharton has not been given any minutes, had we won our first 2 group games, I think he would have played in game 3. However, I suspect GS made it clear to him that his game time would be very limited ( if at all) but the experience he has gained being around the squad and training with them is invaluable to him. Will he think his medal is worthless? I don’t think so

When England are 4-0 up, Gareth will give him a run out.

Absolute cobblers!! He’s trained with the squad and been ready to go if needed, he could go on to win 50 or more caps and not get another medal, so I doubt he’ll be giving it back
