Perhaps a disappoinment.

Realistically Olise is fragile and injury prone.

So an even better sale than Bolasie who at £25m. was
soon found out

really harsh, he started well but had a terrible knee injury that effectively ended his career at the top level

Plaistow Eagles summed it up well.
Reportedly getting double bubble at Bayern £220k a week. If he shines may still end up at Man U. In 3 years, with a small profit for Bayern - wages aside.
I’d have Toney or Watkins tomorrow.

Olise was brilliant but we need to move on. This isn't the s*** Wright or Sansom deal - we're not a one man team. We'll also, hopefully, replace with someone more effective than Clive barely alive Allen or fat Marco Gabbiandini. Hopefully.

Christ, if that's all that's needed, you're in with a shout. Have you still got your boots?

One additional factor to feed into your calculations is the sell-on fee reportedly payable to Reading. According to a BBC South news report yesterday, it's "thought to be 10%of the sale fee". If correct, that's £5m.

True but that may well be offset if the rumours play out of Jake O'Brien moving from Lyon as we are due a sell on percentage.

Look I’m sorry he has gone but on the upside we signed Olise for £8M from Reading in 2021 - 3 years later we sell him for £50M - not too shoddy business..!!

Yes you can argue he’s worth more than that in todays market - but that was clearly the release clause that Parish negotiated with him last season, otherwise we’d have lost him to Chelsea for £35M - so we’re £15M up on the deal..!!

I’m just glad he’s signed for someone we won’t be playing against and he won’t be scoring against us.

On that point Bundesliga ain’t the Prem in terms of standard - you only need to look at Harry Kane to see that 36 goals in 32 games in the Bundesliga - but way off the pace for England at the Euros - to the point I’d play Toney ahead of him on Wednesday - never thought I’d say that..!!

So back to Olise he’s only 22 - so leaving the Prem at that age to go to a sub standard league - huge risk..!! Yes I get he’ll play Champions League - but week in week out football sub standard..!!

No doubt a significant increase in salary played a part in his decision - but also leaves me to wonder as I’ve said before if he’s decision is about he’s overall ability to deal with the rigours of the Prem given for one so young he’s not insignificant history of hamstring issues`!!??

On replacements - firstly he is not irreplaceable - we took a chance on him from the Championship and it worked.

There are other players out there now just waiting to be afforded that opportunity - Palace’s contribution of most players in the England squad at the Euros must demonstrate we are a good club to join to enhance your talent and progress your career - you only need to look at Wharton to see that..!!

For my money Jaden Philogene and Antonio Nusa fit the bill perfectly - we could get both for less than we receive for Olise and arguably be stronger in terms of talent but certainly depth - the latter having been our problem for the last few seasons..!!

Meantime COYP and COYE

It is laughable to suggest the Bundesliga is sub standard. Its not the Prem no but no other league is. German teams have done just as well as English ones in the CL. Better this season. And if you think its uncompetetive look at Leverkusen, Dortmund, Union Berlin, Wolfsburg, Frankfurt, Liepsig. All clubs that could give anyone in the Premiership a game.

In 1964 I was distraught when Bill Glazier went to Coventry (for what was a very good fee for a goalkeeper in those days) but that opened the way for John Jackson - and that didn’t turn out too badly. As one door closes another one opens, it is the way it is and the way it has always been. Michael Olise is a great talent, I have enjoyed watching him, but we move on.

Were you around when Johnnie Byrne - 50 goals in the two seasons 59-61 - left for West Ham? My horror and despondency were such as I've rarely experienced since. But they say it's always darkest before the dawn, and over the following decade we were promoted three times, to get into the top divsion for the first time. So, as you say, we move on - but in a grumpy mood in my case.

Yes I don’t get this substandard and someone else saying farmers league. Bundesliga is a good league and potentially better run than the premier league in terms of ownership.

Anyway so many other good points raised, good luck olise and now we add depth and quality to the squad

And we were humbled 0-4 at home by a lower half German team (Hertha Berlin) in a friendly a couple of seasons ago.

I have loved watching Michael Olise play for us, and would love him to stay. But I wish him well - he deserves to play for one of the very biggest clubs, and unless injury stops him, I believe time will show that he was the best player ever to play for Palace (ie I think he will be a major star in world football). But hey, what do I know !

Fair play. He wasn't good enough to be in the France senior squad though.
