Like most people who envy the success of others, he will be happy with means-testing provided it cuts in at a higher level than his own means.

I'm not Willo but still voted Conservative on the basis that there was no credible alternative and there was no way that I would vote for Smash the Gangs Starmer as I didn't consider him to be a credible alternative

I can't see this happening. In any case a state pension is not a benefit at least not as I understand it. You make contributions and in return receive an annuity when you retire. Personally I would favour changing the system so that everybody has a pot of money which is their own. They can put more or less in but that is their lot. One more point

We are only talking about state pension and that means test already exists. It's called pension credit.

No and the very definition of revisionism given the purpose of the benefits system.

Anyway back to point. No government will interfere with pensions as they will lose office. The article is made up.

The state pension debate is an interesting one. For some to view them as sacrosanct is clearly a nonsense as they had a hatchet taken to them when they raised the entitlement age and it will keep rising unless someone changes the law. So for some people they will drop down dead before they are a penny, however much they have paid in. This change was supposedly made as are are all living longer but what we are in fact seeing is folks working far longer are suffering from ill health issues from simple 'wear and tear,' which in turn adds to NHS costs. But another driver has to be cost. Universal state pensions cost a lot of money. Now every government has to decide what it spends it's money on and successive governments clearly see this as a cost. This government is just the same. It is looking at ways to save money. Is what is happening now any worse than someone like me as I approach my latter years finding out suddenly that my retirement age has gone up by 7 years almost overnight? It's all political decisions and like it or not it probably all boils down to money.
