And as stated before, we won’t always be playing jaded teams running on empty who had played a heck of a lot more games than us as we did in the run in last season.

Most of those teams had more to play for than us and we whupped them 21-4 on goals scored. It was the best seven game stretch to end the season by any team in our position in PL history

Probably easier to judge points than positions. So many of the teams we'd have to be competing against to finish in the top 10 are in transition with new managers at Chelsea, Liverpool, West Ham, Brighton. Our own playing squad is very up in the air too. We could be £150m+ richer but not have the services of Olise, Guehi or Eze for all we know.

By New Year's Day we'll have played 19 games. If we're in the 30 point region at that stage we're in a good place.

26th January 2010 - Enter Administration
2nd May 2010 - D-Day 1 - Survival at Hillsborough
1st June 2010 - D-Day 2 - Survival at Lloyds
7th June 2010 - CPFC2010 exchange contracts.

And it was a really enjoyable run after a season mostly of dross, great atmosphere at the games as well. BUT anyone who thinks we’re going to start the new season like that is deluded, we were revitalised when other teams were clearly struggling. A sharper Liverpool should’ve buried us second half, West Ham and Newcastle had clearly had enough, especially West Ham after getting knocked out of Europe, Man Utd won’t be a shambles like that again and Villa were definitely on the beach. We’ll take it though and we still had to play well to do what we did to them and I know some of them games will stick in the memory for ever.

We may well be a far better team under Ollie and have a decent start, but I’m sure even he will know for a few games everything fell into place just right for us and next season will be as tough as it always is and we’ll be back to the tough reality of premier league life

It can't have been far from the best such run by a team in ANY position, can it?

I'd be very happy to finish 9th and get to a cup semi-final, anything better would be incredible. I was envious of Bright*n getting a European adventure and would love that.

Continuous improvement and all that...

Of course it all depends on keeping the squad together and retaining Oliver Glasner, but all being well and maybe only losing Olise and Guehi and replacing well, we can do this.

It's somewhat surprisingly common (Man City finished with 9 wins this year),at least this century, with 16 occurrences of a team collecting at least 19 points in their final 7 games.

Man United did it back in 1992/93 but it was not repeated until they achieved it again in 1990/00.

Man U again, Liverpool and Chelsea all got 6 wins and a draw to round off the 2008/9 season

Yes that is a surprise. Thanks. Excellent stats-mining!
