Here is Mark Steyn to give an update on an ongoing court case relating to covid and Ofcom.

Ofcom has been given a job to do. It does it.

In our country at the moment there is no right to say whatever you like. For instance there are some restrictions on telling lies that can cause harm or distress. That requires someone to make judgements. When broadcasted that is Ofcom. You don’t have to agree with their judgements, but you do have to respect them.

Don’t like it? Change the arrangements via taking control of our elected Parliament. Good luck with that.

As predictable as night follows day - a post is shared or a point raised which is deemed critical of the Government or official body along comes Wisbech to defend the Government or official body with the comments that “if you don’t like it then change the elected Parliament”

Someone needs to point out the reality of how to actually achieve change. Having a moan on a football forum won’t change anything. Nor will offering sympathy to the likes of Mark Steyn. The laws and rules exist and apply to all and hopefully will only be strengthened, not weakened. That’s what I would vote for!

“Having a moan on a football forum won’t change anything” is a nonsense comment as that would apply to almost every post on HoL, we are unable to influence whether Olise stays or goes, when the new stand will be built, whether Israel will stop the fighting in Gaza etc etc..

No surprise that you would vote for more government control.

Government writes off £1.4bn of PPE - from a single contract issued during the Covid madness times, this is the equivalent cost of an extra 37,000 nurses.

To rub salt in the wound the government has spent a further £100mn in getting rid of the stuff!

It seems incompetence is rewarded, as lots of people got rich through Covid contracts, and many appointed by association with the people awarding them. kick-backs aplenty.

The PPE was per the report manufactured to the correct standard. so was fit for purpose, can't blame the vendors for that.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

I heard that too as well as that an explanation for the decision has not been made public.

My assumption must be that they now hold sufficient stock for any conceivable future demand within its expiry date so to take up storage space makes no sense. That’s a guess though and doesn’t answer why it was over ordered. Perhaps the success of the vaccination program was quicker and more effective than expected.

Agreed - no blame to the vendors as they supplied the amount asked for and to the right quality. Incidentally the owners of the business bought a £30,000,000 villa in the Bahamas soon after.

Your comment about the success of the “vaccination” is just a guess as well.

No condemnation from you Wisbech about the Government wasting £1.4 billion on a single contract? What a surprise!

The expiry date for most PPE-type supplies is 12 months. My local Council started binning many £10k's of stock in 2022. A small percentage was used, but the vast majority over-ordered and are still binning it today (as we can see from the news story). Never mind the stuff that didn't meet standard, or was never delivered.

The incompetence and gluttony is difficult to comprehend the scale of.

Back to the cost of living crisis,.....
