Yes, they are.

Because Olise had a £60m release clause inserted when he signed a new contract last summer.

I'm disappointed in his leaving now after the way last season finished. I thought he could have given Palace another year. Especially when you consider the amount of games he missed.

The only consolation is he's not going to Chelsea.

Okay the last bit is a joke but it's a valid point. Palace would not want him to go to West Ham for example but Bayern or Real Madrid is another matter.

Agreed! But what can we do. We signed the contract with that buy out clause in it.

I'm just hoping that the ease and smoothness in with which we handled the deal scores some brownie points with Bayern if we want any of their squad players in future (like Richards was).

It's about the executives taking control of the clubs they manage as opposed to the players controlling the clubs. If all clubs agreed to not insert these clauses then they would soon disappear (a utopian world I know). I know the argument goes if it suits all parties what's the problem. Well I don't believe it suits our fans and I'm not sure the absence of Olise suits the club either.
