Digital access is effectively pushed forward to devices (Refreshed) a game at a time, clubs today want a tighter (digital) control over who is actually using the ticket-

Home supporter / Away supporter / Stadium banned / known trouble makers etc etc etc

This control / accountability is lost with a plastic card.

It doesn't work though. My mate has got a season ticket but only makes about half of the games. He just does a screenshot of his matchday code then WhatsApp's it to someone who can go. They present the code to the reader and in they go. Although he's meant to sit beside me, I reckon there were 5 or 6 different people in his seat last season.

Yes but unlike a plastic card the path of a digital ticket is traceable from issuer to end user.

It is really important that those who can go digital try to help the Club and do so.
From what I can gather it makes it much easier for everyone - home and away, helps to ensure that oppo fans don't just borrow a card for a game and like it or not is more sustainable to go digital.
I know for a fact that the the Club will really help those that are literally unable to go digital but with the likelihood that many of the 2000 just don't like change it is confusing the issue.
If you can do away with the cards it would be a good idea all round.

I would be very surprised if a screen shot is traceable. But even if it was, Im just not sure Palace are equipped for that sort of high flying technology or even the time to handle it.
Look at their website and try navigation.

People assume that everyone has a smart phone .
I along with many others don't have one .
I do not need one , therefore I don't want one .
If someone can give me a very good reason to have one I may think about it . Getting into a football match is not one of them .
Therefore I am more than happy to have a plastic card .

I think that’s the point though, very soon if you do want to get into a football match you will have to have a smart phone.

Soon everyone WILL have a smartphone, the generation of people who refuse to have one will all be gone in however many years time, now everyone is growing up with a smartphone in their hand.

What are people like myself to do that can't have a smartphone though?

Personally, i think it is another step of getting rid of us wrinklies, they(all clubs) want the younger supporters who have more disposable income. Conform or lose out.

I agree with you, especially when you see clubs like Spurs doing away with OAP prices for tickets.

I myself am young(ish) but I have real fears that I won't be able to go anymore in the near future.

A sad indictment of the times.

I want(ed) 2 tickets for the Nantes pre-season friendly & now im a wheelchair user i can't get tickets online, i have to write/email the club & ask permission if i can go & hopefully get a ticket. Think i'll watch online & enjoy where i am & a cold beer(or 6).
