As stated, depends on how you define best or worst.

Best for money paid and longevity:
Ward, MacArthur, Zaha (from ManU), Delaney, Dann

Best for sell on value (or potential):
Bolaisie, AWB, Zaha (1st time and potential when we didn't sell to Arsenal), Olise, Eze, Guehi, Wharton, Anderson, Mateta (only now).

Others (not long enough to fit in first):
Cabaye, Gallagher, RLC

Worst (all categories):
Bentake, Lokongo (worst loan spell ever), Benteke's brother (only because related to Tekkers), Mutch, Mayer, Freyers, Batashuei (second spell), that pathetic right back from ManU, Fergerson, probably others.

Wasn’t it around £13 million? I seem to remember us paying around that sort of fee for three players back then, Schlupp and PVA being the other two

Looked it up and The Mirror said £11m, The Sun £12m and The Mail £13m. A good reflection on the accuracy of most newspaper reporting.

Ismael. We paid £2.75m - not a huge sum even then (late-90s), but twice as much as we received when he left 9 months later.

No one can blame parish for that one though

Don't forget Patrick Bamford in the bad loan signings list.

Very arrogant and slated the club when he left.

Came with a good reputation, but never lived up to the hype...until he left.

It is sad that no one mentions Puncheon.

It depends on definition of worst and best. There have been a handful of players that have been average (or worse) under one manager and then great under another one.

Yaya Sanogo was a load of old buttocks though if we are indeed including loans. Jose Campaña was meant to be decent but got the impression he got the chop for disrupting the dressing room...came with a fair bit of Holloway hype too if I remember correctly.

Yes apart from half a decent season and a goal in the cup final, he was a waste of space……I’m taking it you meant worst

Seem to recall a heated debate when he played. He was an enigma. Complete disaster when he played but when he was injured we ALWAYS lost.

I opined he operated as a glue that bonded the shape and enabled the others. I know, fetching a bit.

There had to be a reason successive coaches always played him when fit.

Oh on topic jedinak and delaney offered best value.

The worst value are players who's names I've forgotten and don't want to remember.

To throw in a name - I was honestly surprised that Timothy Fosu-Mensah didn't go on to much bigger things. Had a look and he actually now plays for Leverkusen so hardly shabby at all however doesn't look to be a regular fixture for them (20 odd appearances since 2021 apparently).

Thought he did well for us and I would've liked us to sign him permanently but was not surprised when we didn't.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Some formations require a player that can run around aimlessly, pointing at random spots on the pitch. Punch was the best in the business.
