I can't recall any player refusing to play, the occasional strop maybe, but refusal to play? Side line immediately and put on the transfer list. if he wants off now, find the clause in the contract, sort out the financial details and ta ta.

Another keeper actually had a strop when we were on our knees financially and his money was late and he wouldn’t take a cut to help out, Kevin Miller. He actually refused to play when he was actually playing!! We lost 6-0 at QPR and it was a disgusting show of deliberate sabotage because he was forced to play

There’s a reason why we conceded a lot of goals from corners last year. Never happened at Man U with Shmeichel between the sticks. The fella knew how to command his box. Not sure it really is Vinnies forte.

Good luck and move on. Fortunately we have 2 good young keepers to step up. Use the money to replace the talentless Edouard up front.

Possibly, although it was Johnstone not Guaita in goal when we conceded three times from corner kicks against West Ham in the season just gone.

Off ye f*** then!
It's a shame his Palace career has to end like this, but he's been replaced by a younger, potentially better keeper.

If it is true then he needs to be brought back onside quickly or offloaded asap.
Can't have open mutiny like that.
I prefer Sam anyway!

Just as well because we've had numerous players with no ability to play.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Totally unprofessional and disrespectful behaviour from Guaita and a very disappointing end to his Palace career. One would hope the club terminate his contract for effectively refusing to work and send him on his way if he persists in this behaviour and it has a disruptive effect in the other players

A good shot stopper, his kicking and distribution were always quite weak and he did not command his box very well. Far too many balls were allowed to pass through Vinnie’s 6 yard box and he was often hesitant to leave his line. A good player, but certainly no Jackson, Martyn or Speroni I suggest sums up his time with us. So far at least Sam Johnstone looks a good and younger upgrade

What I still don’t understand is why Jack Butland was allowed to leave on loan last season and not offered a contract for this year. In the end he was needed last season when instead Joe Whitworth had to step up. Jack was a one-time England international, younger than Guaita and having him and Johnstone challenging for the number 1 made more sense than extending Guaita’s contract by a year at his age. Now of course the club are scrambling around needing a good Premier League standard backup to Johnstone as Matthews is not it, Whitworth is not experienced enough yet and Goodman is out on loan. Another problem to solve along with several others in the squad. You have to sympathise with Roy being handed all these issues to cope with!

yes no player is entitled to always play - it's not like he lost his place to a youngster, Johnstone has played for England.

For me VG is clearly trying to get a free transfer back to Spain.
The problem he has is wages. When we signed him he was reported paid £60k a week, probably more than double what he was earning in Spain. A few years later he starts making noises that he wants to move back to Spain and suddenly signs a 2 year extension on improved terms. He did the same last year and another 1 year extension was offered, and accepted. At 36 i did think maybe we should have waited until the summer before this offer was made.

With his age and high wages he will not be in such high demand in Spain. I suspect the only way he will get a deal is if the club signing him don't need to pay a transfer fee.

However, if he wanted to finish his career in Spain he could have refused the last contract extension.

So now we have an unhappy goalie reportedly earning £4m a year.
He is clearly trying to force the club's hand before the Sept 1 transfer window close.

I'm in two minds. Been a good goalkeeper for us and his time in top level football is nearly at an end. I can see why he wants to play. We can't guarantee that.

We wouldn't get much of a fee for him, so best for all parties to cancel his contract asap and make him a free agent. No pay-off as I presume he has been paid the last month or so when he has been refusing to work.

We will have to get Wayne Hennessy back he has done well for Wales. I agree Guaita leaving under a cloud is a real shame but we all have to take the rough with the smooth.

What with Anderson, Guehi, Olise and Doucoure being sniffed around by 'Bigger Clubs' and Eze rumoured to be refusing a new contract I don't think this is what Roy signed up for!

And now Guaita refusing to play!!Can you see Pep or Jurgen accepting this behaviour and what Ferggie would have done isn't printable, If Giaita has really refused to play Roy should just sling him out and have done with it. We don't need any premia-donnas at Selhurst

This is totally understandable, the issue is the way that he's gone about it.

If he said "I'm 36, haven't got that long left in my career, I want to move" then nobody could begrudge him that. Refusing to play, however, is pathetic behaviour and really does tarnish his legacy here.
