I had never heard of this tragedy, which is kind of sad in itself having been a Palace fan for 49 of those 60 years.
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

Thanks Spiderman. An interesting read and not a disaster I was aware of before. I will ask my Uncle who would have been twelve at the time and living locally. I imagine that sort of thing stays in the memory. I can assure you you don't forget them,l was at Beulah rd school at the time, and it just shattered everyone at the time, and it would be nice to have a short memoriam at the first home game.

I had not long finished confirmation classes and at the time of the crash was on holiday in Hastings with a friend who had recently moved there from Thornton Heath. On this particular day I just happened to glance at the newspaper and there was the picture of one of the boys I had been in the confirmation classes with underneath the banner headline reporting the awful news. I didn’t attend Lanfranc and didn’t know him well and I’m ashamed to say that I no longer remember his name, but it was real shock at the time and I’ve never forgotten it.

Maybe try and contact Karen Alford. She deals with alot of things for the club or she may at least point you in the right direction. I think it would be very fitting to have a minutes silence before the Brentford game. It's been 60 years and tragedies and the people involved should never be forgotten and many of the boys involved were Palace fans. Have just sent an email

Quick update. There should be something on Palace website soon about the crash. I have spoken to Karen and the media team will contact me as they need pictures and hope to put something up on the screen at the Brentford game.

South Devon Eagle this must stir up some painful feelings for you so well done for being involved in this. You as well Spiderman. If I could shake you both by the hand I would. I think the minutes applause on 34 minutes is a fantastic and fitting tribute to those boys, the teachers and flight crew. Maybe the Fanatics could be contacted to advertise and start the minutes applause on the 34th minute? Edited by kennybrowns leftfoot (09 Aug 2021 7.19pm)
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

I don't know any of them personally and I don't do Facebook so can't contact them on there. I'm sure somebody on here is either a part of the group or can contact them??
