if we broke even 18/19 with AWB sale, lost £60m 19/20 with 6 months of covid i wouldnt be surprised at a £60 loss for 20/21 season considering sorloth transfer meant we more or less meant transfers wiped their own nose for last season.

i suppose one good thing is that given our investment in youth recently all it would take would for eze for example to have a stunning 2nd half to this season and we could break even for this coming season even with the expenditure.

i did think that myself. i may be wrong but wasnt this set of accounts the end of our FFP cycle that got extended from 3-4 years. which means we are allowed to spend the owners money again, thats the only place i can assume its coming from, or this years instalments of transfer payments anyway.

Unlike the previous signings (Van Aanholt, Sakho, Benteke) who are all contract up at 30 years old and nowhere near the same value, we've secured Guehi until 26, Olise until 24, apparently Andersen until 30...

They're actually sellable assets so although it hits the balance sheet, we'll likely come out cash positive on these signings.

The only big contract left is wilf, 130k a week, second is Guaita 77k

What is Benteke now on?

The truth has to be that Benteke is paid too much - but that's not a comment against him. All Premier players are overpaid and everyone knows that. Financial Fair Play was introduced because it was obvious many years ago that all clubs are spending money that they don't have. They found that Manchester City may have broken the rules and then reversed the stance. So all the Premiership clubs will carry on spending a ridiculous per centage of income on players wages and image rights etc etc . I don't have the answer but it is a problem that no-one is going to tackle.

If anyone saw that Fans Reform article on the BBC sports app the other day ( maybe a couple weeks ago)
They said - copy / paste below -

in season 18/19 9 Premier League clubs made pretax losses, and 8 clubs operated with a wage to revenue ratio at or over the level (70%) considered
dangerous, with 3 over 80% - the first time more than one club has operated over 80%.
The situation is even worse below Premier League level. In the Championship in the same pre-Covid
season, only two Championship clubs made both operating and pre-tax profits, average wage to
turnover was 107% and average operating losses £16m annually. Leagues 1 and 2 made pre-tax
losses of £22m and £20m respectively.
Operating at such a level of consistent losses is clearly unsustainable in the long term

Andros Townsend English Forward £80,000
Conor Wickham English Forward £60,000
Christian Benteke Belgian Forward £120,000
Crystal Palace Players Salaries 2021
As you can see, there is a large range of wages at Crystal Palace. The more important players are on the higher wages, and Wilfried Zaha is on the highest wage the club has ever paid. Other notable wages are £125,000 for Max Meyer following his arrival last summer. Belgian international Christian Benteke is also on £120,000. The Palace fans were looking for decent performances from the key players and they have delivered decently so far. The club has enjoyed seven years at the top flight and finished the 2019/20 season at the 14th place.

Roy Hodgson’s squad lacks depth having only 21 as first-team players due to the lack of funds at the club. Palace even failed to progress in either of the two cup competitions. This transfer window is crucial for the club as they need to address the aging squad and sign some young players. They already started that with the signing of 19-year old England U-20 right-back Nathan Ferguson.

Any forensic analysis of these accounts is meaningless as we will never see the whole picture as much of the ownership structure and flows of money are through opaque structures or ones who do need to either not draw up accounts or not publish them.

But looking at just these figures we are as are most clubs insolvent and just goes to soow there is no industry quite like football.

Interesting.. but by cutting the guys that have left that removes circa 30 mill off the wage bill , so what and who accounts for the other 100 mill or so ? .. operating at 93% income going on wages is financial suicide ..
