It's not a real shirt. I've just posted it on Twitter and the bloke who designed it quote tweeted me to say it's just a concept that he designed. [Tweet Link]
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

Given that they clearly already have the home shirt designed and approved, we've had a new manager and signed a new exciting, young, attacking player... They must be saving the unveiling of the new home kit for something REALLY big...??! Optimistic?!!

Sorry, are we aston villa now then? I do know the history, but we've had iconic red and blue kits for half a century, and are the only team in the league to play in those colours. Why would we ditch that to use colours that half the league play in? Don't agree at all. What colours other clubs play in really isn't relevant to what colours we have, will, or should play in. Shirt design is surely about something related to Palace (in this case, our history). The fact that another team uses a colour is irrelevant. You don't define yourself by looking to someone or somewhere else. Personally, I'd get rid of the 'Eagles'identity altogether if it was down to me. It's a meaningless piece of modern branding albeit in 1974 one ahead of its time (unless you've seen an eagle flying free over Croydon lately). The Glaziers, on the other hand, are what we were and really are. It has meaning in the context of both the club and the area we play in. Personally, I'm not overly bothered whether we play in red and blue, claret and light blue or if we're being historical accuracy pedants, blue and white. But a change that reminds us of our history every few seasons doesn't strike me as a bad thing. Particularly right now where in general we are trying to forge a new identity, this might be a good time to try something different.

That would have been the first non-nostalgia shirt I'd bought in three decades. It's easily, by a country mile, the best Palace shirt I've seen in as long as I can remember. Just goes to show, if the club let the fans make decisions rather than the so-called 'marketing experts', we might just get a kit we all like.

I'm perfectly fine for our mascot to be an eagle... I say the badge in the future when we come to redesigns should put more emphasis on the crystal palace than the eagle.. it actually makes sense. But united have Red Devils, spurs west ham, so an eagle for me is fine

Personally I'm quite relieved to hear the kit is just some fellas creation and not one that will actually be worn by the players. It's incredibly bland, and the fact that the colours are so commonplace just makes it even more so. Mind you, doesn't much matter now does it?! I'll tell you what I would consider though, that's changing the home kit back to white with a red and blue sash. Nothing else, none of the unnecessary modifications and 'modern twists' of so many of the recent away kits that were based on the original classic - just the original classic.

An old story I was always told as a child was our eagle originally was a Phoenix and it was to symbolise a phoenix rising from the ashes of the Crystal Palace, it looked more like an eagle so the club just went with it. Its a real shame that wont be our new kit. Edited by Ouzo Dan (10 Jul 2021 6.03am)
