He's made it clear he doesn't want to stay. Even Roy is playing Mitchell because of this. You and I both know Roy would prefer PVA.

Between the relatively consistent rumours of his desire to leave and his awful performances all season, what you say makes sense. Funny how someone like PVA doesn't want to play, whilst someone like Benteke has got his finger out in the same circumstances. Opposite ends of the spectrum really.

Personally, I've no issue with his effort during games, I just don't think he's all that good.

He was an extremely promising player when he briefly broke into the England side, and if you put together a youtube video of his best bits (even just for Palace) he'll look like a cracking player, but the high points come around far too infrequently, whilst anonymous performances are common.

Harry Redknapp commented on him when doing punditry on one of our games a month or two back. He couldn't believe how little Townsend was offering. Having had the player at Spurs or QPR earlier in his career, he obviously expected far more than he was seeing. I think we all did really.

For me, he's in the category of one to keep as a squad player, as I don't believe he's particularly expensive.

A Rennie or two should help them out.
