Just wondering if any guys here have experiance in this field any pointers for reaching decent physical fitness before I go to basic. I have applied for the royal marines after years of rows with my family over my wish to commit to service luckily I'm still only 23.

Hibbystu is ex-bootneck. Im ex Royal Navy, dannyh-V1 is a serving squaddie. There are quite a few service people on here. Good luck & well done.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Build up your fitness gradually. You do not need to be super fit before you join. Just quite fit will do. The marines training could be quite tough, best of luck with it.

What ASCPFC said. It has changed a bit since my time, but the army now has some good videos showing the types of exercises you can do to get fit. There are 11 videos, and they are really clear and well done. They also have videos on some of the other stuff you will have to do. The Marines are a good choice, and the key to success is often just down to not giving up rather than simply being the fittest recruit.
If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |

Good luck to you I did 26 years in the RCT Maritime The basic fitness test then was a 1.5 mile walk/ run in 15 minutes followed immediately by 1.5 miles in under 10.5 minutes the second part time extends as you get older. Originally posted by Cpfc1861

Seriously good luck mate and we値l done Haha no I've had a successful shoulder stability procedure which would allow me to join I was advised to do this as when I tried last time I my recruiter said on the grounds of lack of movement in my shoulder I may fail hes run over the criteria and my medical notes as I kept in touch and he believes I'll pass no issue now plus I've finally got my families blessing which was the main reason I didnt chance it last time.
