Struggling to remember who it was against now, l was still young enough to be running round the bottom of the Arthur bored after 50minutes in them days. It was George Wood going off injured rather then sent off. My recollection is that it was Shrewsbury but then I think anything bad that happened to Palace in early to mid 80s Shrewsbury were to blame for.

It’s a good call, it definitely happened, but like you I can’t remember who it was against. I do remember Hughton breaking Gerry Ryan’s leg though against Brighton, a sickening crack echoed round the ground, but that’s another thread.

You’re right about Shrewsbury, definitely our bogey team back then

Yes I believe it was home to Shrewsbury.
Cannot recall the score and I have scant little recollection of the game.

it was the shrews - we were 2-0 up, some 2nd rate striker whose name eludes me got at least one - keeper (Wood, I presume) got injured and HH came in - did some amazing reaction saves but some positional howlers let the shrews back in for a 2-2 draw in front of about 4000 fans - only a few years after the Eagle has landed, and our crowd size only really recovered by the late 90s, we didn't get great gates when Coppell was in charge, then there was that leg break - he should have got a prison sentence for that, jumped on to Ryan's shin double footed and snapped it - back page photos the next day showed the shin bone inside the sock had a break so that two bits of the same shin bone were at right angles to each other - people ruing the new leniency may have short memories, good that horror tackles have been removed from the game.

I was in the New Stand enclosure not far away and it was sickening, the crack rang around the ground, then you heard him screaming, one of those things you never forget.

My first was Bill Glazier who I saw play just before he was sold to Coventry.

Anyone remember Nicky Chatterton playing in goal when Tony Burns got injured?

A stockbroker urged me to buy a stock that would triple its value every year. I told him, at my age, I don't even buy green bananas!

No, but I think I recall Peter Burridge having to go in goal in the early sixties.

Typically he probably had the best game of his life that day, he saved a penalty as well, obviously spurred on by the abuse

This might be down to my sketchy memory again but at the QPR game did some one chuck a burger a fat boy Miller which he caught. Have to blame all day drinking for my hazy memory on this one, I had grown up a bit from the Hughton goalkeeping incident.
