For instance...

Wilf has a 4 year contract with us and has a very healthy relationship with the fans and the club. There really is no need to offer him fresh terms. If we believe whats been said recently then Wilf is on more than I initially realised so its odd timing to offer him fresh terms.

The club have been quiet on the transfer front. In fact if we ignore the GK deal then we have not signed anyone we hadn't already done a deal with. After what RH said recently we might not have much money this season.

Now what if the club has decided to offer Wilf fresh terms, against a backdrop of false transfer rumour...just to appease the fans? Some fans would actually be won over by that. They would see it as a job well done by the club because Wilf has stayed.

So it would be a summer of "well done Palace" we have managed to keep our best player (who was already on a 4 year contract).

All I am saying is...perhaps the lack of feedback from the club on this contract situation is a tactical approach rather than a sign that Wilf has indeed decided he wants to leave.

I don't think it is a stunt by club but I do agree that the facts we know and rumours taken together do not make sense.

Wilf is one our best paid players, since he has 4 years to run on contract, if we are hard up why make a new offer?

Are we that hard up? the players who have left save us about £260k pw. Guita and the players who re-signed (assuming they got an extra 5k pw) will have reduced that to around £180kpw. I think club has decided we need to trim our wage bill so unless the perfect player comes along (or its Wilf) no new 100k pw players.

We had 15 million in bank can make a loss of 45 million over a 3 year cycle (this assumes shareholders underwrite £10 million debt per year) under FPP. So money could be found if shareholders wanted.

I think we are waiting to see RLC situation. He will push Chelsea for first team football and I don't think they can guarantee. So will they sell or Loan? We can give him first team football and I suspect he would not be adverse to coming back. Once his situation is clarified I suspect we will see 4 or 5 new faces arrive.

Evening Standard now reporting that Parish has been left stunned that Wilf wants away to apparently achieve his ambition to play in the Champions League, something he will never do with us,or Everton, for that matter!!

Not going to believe any of the speculation until it becomes more concrete.

However I wouldn't blame him for wanting out. Our transfer activity can't possibly match what you'd assume his ambition to be. Rather than building a team around him, we're currently significantly weaker than last season and does he really want to spend another entire season being kicked off the park as he carries us in another relegation battle?

Reality is Wilf will leave soon. There would be something wrong if someone with that much natural talent doesn't want to leave to win trophies. His talent warrants that. He must have sat through the world cup thinking 'why the f*ck am I not playing at that level, I'm better than most on show!' It must have irked him big style as well as the decision to choose the Ivory Coast over England ... but that's another story!

Thankfully, we have got him on a long contract and I see him leaving in the January 2019 transfer window as that's the best compromise for all concerned. Help us rack up some points 1st part of the season, then a title chaser will stump up the transfer fee we want, Wilf gets his move and perhaps even wins a trophy at the end of the season.

That's the best outcome for all concerned at this stage.

He posted yesterday something along the lines of ‘back in training, thanks for all the kind words, #godisgreat #cpfc.

I think all this stuff is a pile of nonsense. He doesn’t seem the type of player to kick up a fuss. We won’t sell until we have a replacement, and he has 4 years to run. Ultimately we should get one more season out of him. Especially with the form he is in and this will be the first season in a long time that we have some management stability.

He will go, but we can certainly get one more year out of him.

if hazard is being mooted as worth £200m, then wilfs worth £100 with 4 years on his deal & only being 25.

lets just up his wage to 150k a week to keep him happy for the next season.

What if we’re only planning on forking out £150k per week or less on new wages of 2 very decent new players and 2 potentially good players? We can’t continue paying 1 player the equivalent of 2 or more salaries, irrespective of who they are. What if Wilf is injured into the 19/20 season? Can’t sell him and we’re paying him the wage we didn’t plan to beyond June 2019 of multiple players.

Spot on comments from KAOS here.

We need to accept he won't be here forever. He is far to good to not be playing at the top level when he will never achieve that with us.

I could see him going now but if he does then it has to be for the right price... and we must then invest at least half of what we get for him on new players.

Our squad is weak as it is... If we lose Zaha and don't get replacements in then get ready for a long and painful season.
