Newcastle and Leicester are two extremes. One is in a relegation battle but Remy is likely to play whereas Leicester are almost certs for Champions League football next season but he could just be exchanging one bench warming role for another.

We are unlikely to be either in Europe or a relegation dog fight but have just signed a striker and have a poor reputation for signing players from Chelsea then not playing them.

Hmmmmm choices, choices

I am probably the only person in the world thinking this, but I do not think we are out of the Remy race. In fact, I believe the opposite; the arrival of Adebayor may make it more likely that we get him than before.

I base this on the following reasons:

1. As players, Adebayor and Remy would complement, not compete with, each other.

2. We know Remy has always been on our target list.

3. We know we are still in the market for new players.

4. We pretty much knew all along that ideally we needed two forwards rather than one.

5. London. Can't imagine Remy going to a relegation-threatened team up north when he can stay in London and play for a competitive team.

6. Tying up Adebayor is the sort of statement of intent that can impress other potential targets.

7. We have the money if we want to sign him.

I'm not saying I think we will sign Remy but I do think we will try. I do not think this one is anywhere near impossible. But I do believe that over the next few days, we will see players going out before we see more coming in. If there are offers on the table for any of our players right now, I expect we will try to conclude deals quickly, even if it reduces the price by a few bob. If Gayle to Swansea is genuine, I would expect this to happen imminently.

This has been a long time in the pipeline.

Pards and Cabaye have had all the time in the world to work on Remy. They made it clear ages ago he was their main target and it always looked like they were aiming for this window. I would be surprised if we don't get him. With important hires you have to nurse them over the line and they take effort and time.

Adebayor is an irrelevance to Remy, he is only here for six months and there will always be competition in any Prem team.

The Remy move just makes sense. Now with Cabaye, Adebeyor, the London location..

I'm happy we have brought in proven quality in Adebeyor to be honest, its a bit of a gamble but he has proven himself in the premier league.

Remy up top alongside Adebeyor would be great though. Lets hope that can happen!

To be honest, I struggle to understand why our current strikers dont get the service, when you look at Zaha, Bolassie, Cabaye, McArthur, albiet the first two need to improve, granted..but still, you would have thought on paper our squad would be more formidable in creating attacking chances and scoring goals then they are..
