I want to do a marathon and fancy somewhere exciting to help my motivation. Has anyone on here done the Los Angles marathon? Good one to do? Any others people can recommend?

I think it's called Snickers now.

I assume money and distance isn't a problem? When I did my first (and what I thought would be my only) I did Snowdonia as it's a hard race with beautiful scenery. I suppose it depends what you mean by exciting, the race itself or a glamorous location. For me exciting is about the race itself. There's a few really good marathons but cost a bit. These a few of the ones I intend to do when I win the lottery Big Five [Link] Closer to home and one I intend on doing next year is Glencoe [Link] If it's a glamorous / exciting city location you are looking for, try Sports Tours they have places in races all over the world inc Marine Corps Marathon (Washington) & New York [Link]

I have run the Prague marathon and the Rotterdam marathons. Rotterdam is a bit of a pit, mostly bombed to s*** in the war and then cheaply rebuilt. However we flew into Amsterdam which certainly has its attractions. It's a flat run with the only incline being an underpass. Prague has a few cobbled streets so isn't great on your feet but again is mostly flat and is a lovely city to spend a few days in. If I were to run another, I'd probably go for Berlin or Florence. Bilbao has a night time marathon which could be fun and there is one in France where you stop for a glass of wine every mile or so.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Some of the folks at my running club did San Francisco and said that was amazing. Can't vouch for it myself but they seemed to have an awesome time.

Never do Amsterdam. Soulless. Miserable. And I had to queue with the public for 10 minutes to have an unplanned dump as they were all using the competitors portaloos would have broken 3.45 for the first time but for that.
