Hard to get it all right in life. But feel sorry for him?? Haha. I dont suppose there are many who wouldn't take Wilfs career.
The guy is a super star to many (like myself). He was an absolute diamond for us. Hero worshipped for years (and still is). Played at a packed Wembley a few times with his song resounding round the ground.
Now living the life of luxury in Turkey with many millions to his name. Doesn't sound so bad to me.

Just because someone some one is rich doesn't mane you cant feel for them. And just because he achieved, doesn't mean he couldn't have achieved more.

When Zaha moved to to Galatasaray it was confirmed by the club that he will receive a £2m signing-on fee for joining the Istanbul team. He will also earn a £3.75m net annual wage which breaks down to around £72,000-a-week.
And yet we were told he had been offered £200,000 per week if he stayed at Palace even after Income Tax and NI his net wages would be £106,306 per week £5,527,938 a year in the UK.
I can only assume the Palace offer was taken off the table and moving to Galatasaray was the only face saving option.
My own thoughts are that he will be back in England looking for a club after one season in Turkey ,if not before.

Signing on fee is standard.

It may appear as if he is taking a pay cut but not really I expect he has clauses for large bonuses and other things at play to do with taxes etc.

The other truth is no one else wanted him and this would have been his only chance to play EU football.

It's a far easier league as well which should extend his career.

I don't see him returning unless it's one of the top clubs. (I don't see any of them being interest and If he leaves Turkey maybe go to US or Saudi)

Palace need to move on from him anyway and even if available in future not touch him it would be backwards step for the club also not good for Wilf how people will remember him because hes on the decline now.

Well yeah because you're a supporter. Change palace to wolves, Fulham or forrest, would you pick one of them over a fairly big European club who play in the champions league, will compete for their domestic competitions or settle for surviving in the prem.

I agree. Wilf is the past as far as Palace should be concerned. We have to move on, just as we had to when many fans wanted us to keep chasing Gallagher.

I used to read comments on HOL to the effect that Wilf was often reluctant to pass to a Palace teammate who was better placed to score than he was. Just saying.

Ha yeah. I recall recounting the story of the playground kid who, once the ball was passed to him, would not return the pass and instead went on a dribble trying to beat everyone on the other side. In the end nobody bothered passing the ball to him.

You've missed the point.

He didn't get to do that, so for his own sake not worth concentrating on what might have been and instead on what he did achieve.

He's doing it now.

Have we signed him yet?

Totally get your vibe Mr Robbo, but I suppose it depends if you are a glass half full merchant or half empty. As a half full merchant, I look at Wilf and what he has achieved and how, and I think to myself that is fantastic. Equally one could look on the half empty side and think where did it all go wrong.
But fundamentally, I hope we are both in the same place when I hope Wilf is enjoying his life and new career at Gala and looking back with pride at everything he gave to us Palace fans.

Playing and scoring in a memorable CL game at Old Trafford for Gala will, I imagine, have made the move feel worthwhile even if he achieves nothing else. I heard another player talking about how there is nothing like the feeling of hearing the famous theme tune before kick-off in a CL match. I genuinely think that was his one goal, as he would have got at least three times as much in the Saudi Anal Prolapse League if he'd wanted more money. If he'd stayed with us his career would have gradually tailed off before a handshake and a gold watch on the pitch with Parish.

I loved Wilf and he probably would have been solid for us again if he'd stayed this season, but his influence was perhaps holding us back. Players like Franca, Olise, Eze and JRS are the future and if they can all remain fit it will be an exciting one.

The allure of Champions League football, winning a league title etc are attractive propositions for a new challenge. Fighting for relegation and ending up 12th every season, probably became boring for him. He's done everything he could have for us and being able to play CL football, as well as score against Man U, at Old Trafford, in the Champions League, will be bucket list stuff for him. He is cemented as a Palace and Croydon legend and has nothing more to give us, we too muct move on.

His next move will likely be Saudi or America.

A good summary, with my main takeaways highlighted. Reflects my thoughts.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
