Current Zaha stats are

Played 5
Scored 1
Shots 1

They do not pass to him for some reason. Seen a couple games now and hes often in acres of space and they put the ball elsewhere, he seems frustrated.

I used to read comments on HOL to the effect that Wilf was often reluctant to pass to a Palace teammate who was better placed to score than he was. Just saying.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Might be tactical vs palaces tactics of 'pass it to Wilf at every opportunity, even when marked'

He was very reluctant to give it to Mitchell quite often.

He's probably been mouthing off about wanting to be at a bigger club.

An opportunity to live in a new country, experience new culture, play in the Champions League and also challenge for a league title. Let's also acknowledge that Galatasaray have a pretty good squad of quality/experiences pros who have played at the top level which Wilf could learn from - i.e Ziyech, Mertens, Icardi, Ndombele, Torreira, Angelino et.

And that's of course without the added layer that, even if Gala didn't offer/match the stated amount above (if that's even true), he's still going to be on a very good wage.

I think he was fed up with being the only player standing whilst the rest of the players and officials took the knee...

hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing.

Perhaps scoring against United, at Old Trafford, in the CL will have to be the summit he was aiming for (in lieu of anything bigger)?

I often had the impression Zaha just 'wanted to play CL football', as a singular and very defined ambition. An ego thing I would not begrudge him. He can't have moved to Turkey for money, cultural enrichment or a greater range of Kebabs to choose from surely? He may of done so for the latter two, though I see that as a very, very long shot.

If he's not getting things all his own way, and is not the star of the show, as he was for almost all his career with us, I wouldn't bet against Gala exiting the CL pretty swiftly and him, having achieved his sole objective, looking to come back here.

That's all if we would take him of course? He may be surplus to our requirements by then or we may be even more skint then we are now (virtually impossible but you never know). His move would have been about 5 or so seasons ago, where he could probably have done a very good job for a reasonably decent CL side.

I'm of course extremely grateful we had him for the time we did but I wouldn't be surprised if he holds some resentment toward the United move (combined with Sir Alex departing) too early on in his career and the similarly too late a move to a weak side of no particular glamour in Europe, when he's well past his peak.

If I were Wilf, I would/would have invested my thoughts into being his local club's hero and legend, a PL player for a long time and somebody recognised as a dazzling winger within that period, at times singlehandedly carrying the aforementioned team.

There's a danger he could see himself as someone who's big break early on was destroyed by the legendary manager who signed him leaving, who was unjustly denied the opportunity to star for England, or a move in his peak, and who ended his career in unhappy circumstances playing in a nothing league for the sake of being able to say he had played in the CL.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Well yeah because you're a supporter. Change palace to wolves, Fulham or forrest, would you pick one of them over a fairly big European club who play in the champions league, will compete for their domestic competitions or settle for surviving in the prem.

You've missed the point.

He didn't get to do that, so for his own sake not worth concentrating on what might have been and instead on what he did achieve.

A great summary, if you don't mind me saying. Sums up my thoughts as well on Wilf. Cheers for that.

Unfortunately for him, (and I do genuinely feel a bit sorry for him,) I bet this is what he is feeling, and why he made this move even if it didnt 'feel' right.

It does show that the difference between a very good and great career might be a few bad decisions (not holding on another year for and England pick, signing another long contract) and an unlucky situation (Fergie leaving)

Hard to get it all right in life. But feel sorry for him?? Haha. I dont suppose there are many who wouldn't take Wilfs career.
The guy is a super star to many (like myself). He was an absolute diamond for us. Hero worshipped for years (and still is). Played at a packed Wembley a few times with his song resounding round the ground.
Now living the life of luxury in Turkey with many millions to his name. Doesn't sound so bad to me.
