Sheffield United v Palace

Bramall Lane, Tuesday 7.45pm

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace

Team news

Sheffield United have yet to win at home this season, in fact they have only won once in the league, however, five draws have ensured that they are not rooted to the bottom of the table.

Laurent D'Jaffo is a major doubt ahead of Tuesday's game after being forced to go off in the first half of United’s 2-0 defeat against Millwall on Saturday. This means that Patrick Suffo, who scored against Palace last season at Bramall Lane, should start up front with ex Gills striker Carl Asaba.

It is also expected that there will be no place for transfer-listed winger Paul Devlin in United's line-up. Devlin has been the subject of intense transfer speculation, with Palace just one of the many clubs making a bid which was however rejected by the Blades.

Palace manager Steve Bruce is likely to stick with the same side that beat Barnsley 1-0.

This should mean that loan signing Steve Vickers will again replace Dean Austin and play in a back three with Popovic and Mullins.

American international Gregg Berhalter will again be missing as he is currently injured with a broken jaw and will not be back for a few weeks.

Palace midfielder Tommy Black is suspended for the trip to Sheffield following his sending off at Portsmouth. This is a shame as the ex-Arsenal youth player’s recent performances have impressed manager Steve Bruce who, after the Barnsley game said, "He's worked hard since the start of the season and he provided us with that spark we were lacking when he came on.”

For a couple of weeks now Palace fans have been awaiting the return of David Hopkin. The midfield should have recovered from an injury which he sustained on the first day of the season, however whether he will make the bench on Tuesday is not know.

Sheffield United's top scorer

D'Jaffo - 2 goals

Sheffield United's bad boy

Asaba/Murphy/Page/Peschisolido/Phelan - 2 0

Palace old boys

Terry Phelan (Loan)

The former Gillingham striker, who almost joined his beloved Palace last year has been a big hit in the Red side of Sheffield. He is a tall yet skillful striker who can nip in past defences and posseses a lethal finish. Though Palace have had 2 clean sheets in their past 2 games, he is certainly one who will trouble us!
