Selhurst Park, Saturday 3.00pm
Recent signings Yannick Bolasie, Andre Moritz and Darcy Blake are set to feature, while deadline day signing Damien Delaney is likely to start at centre half.
Club captain Paddy McCarthy is out for up to six weeks with a groin injury. Jon Williams (calf) and Glenn Murray (knee) should be fit to play.
Roy Hodgson
"It's a home match and I always feel we're strongest at Selhurst Park. We were unlucky against Watford in the last couple of minutes, and we've got players like Julian Speroni, who held his hands up for that game, but how he has responded is what you want to see as a manager and a fan.
"He has come back stronger and I felt his performance at Middlesbrough was top class. He made some top saves, so that's the type of characters in the team we've got.
"We were very unlucky against Watford and we're starting to respond with our performances – it's just trying to get that win and I think that will happen on Saturday.
"I think Murray may return as I've been told he's being rushed back, which is good news. Hopefully Jon Williams will be fine but Paddy McCarthy is out for a while.
"The situation is that we have found ourselves playing Saturday-Tuesday games for four weeks, and although I feel the players are fit enough, it does take it out of you a little bit, plus the travelling. If we do our jobs properly and we can put in a good performance, we'll come away with the win.
"I felt that in the first couple of games we were a little unfortunate, especially against Watford, but we made a few signings and I felt that our season really began up at Middlesbrough.
"I thought the performance was good and I know the players and staff are excited for Saturday’s game as we feel that we can now compete at all levels, and the fans can see that, and that is why they are excited for the next game.
"Every game is a great test in this division. We feel that we have a squad that is capable of beating anybody, especially at Selhurst Park.
"Sheffield Wednesday will come here having spent money and added to their squad but now, having added a few players, we have done the same so we are evenly matched.
"Hopefully we can get a couple more signings over the line this week. As usual we need to make sure they are the right type, the right ones, and we are working very hard on that."
