Remember Dan Gosling?

This chaotic approach to how we appoint managers and sign players reminds me of the story when Dan Gosling was expected to sign for us from Newcastle in 2013. Apparently, he completed the medical, but was left waiting in a darkened room at Beckenham until 9pm, several hours and nobody from the club called him, so he left with his agent and decided he was not wanted. Ian Holloway even said he was upset about it as he clearly wanted Gosling. But even now with managers, it seems we identify the likes of Howe, Cooper, and Lampard, but then all of a sudden Nuno becomes available and we chuck our eggs in one basket, but then go back to our old list when the eggs end up all over our face! It reeks of a lack of class and also proper planning. We have had months to identify two main targets, but we end up waving our scattergun around as usual!!!

A very good player we missed out on.

Man, there have been a few of those.

you and I know nothing about the process and how smooth it is. All we get is bones from journalists, people claiming to be ITK who were told something from someone connected with Palace, and we then try to connect it all together which is of course going to look disjointed as we have only a fraction of the details, usually nothing more than a name.

If we were in discussions with Nuno for several days and decided he wasn't right, then that's due process and diligence in my book.

All the names we've been associated with are all the candidates that any Joe Bloggs could scribble down on a fag packet.

All we can be sure of is that you and I know very little about how the process and who is really in the mix quite rightly it's being kept behind closed doors. Being transparent about how the hiring is going would make it an absolute circus and put any manager off of talking to us if they know the details of conversations with the board are going to be made public.

Bringing up an isolated incident from 8 years ago isn't in the least bit relevant to the current manager situation. I don't see the connection.

I think what you need to consider is that the Club / Steve Parish / Dougie Freedman have not said anything to the media.

Therefore it's all Media speculation and getting quotes from such renown pundits as Barry Fry, Marcus Bent and Steve Howie (!) on the situation.

Our situation isn't dissimilar to Tottenham's and to a lesser extent, Everton's.

Of all the supposed candidates, Nuno appears - in my opinion anyway, as one that has had meaningful contact with Palace. And if the reported reasons for ending talks is accurate, I think Parish is doing the right thing.

Parish may not have spoken to the media on the record directly but he does have a habit of drip feeding the chosen few who talk on his behalf.

Parish has done very well for the club but surely it's evident that the running of the club on occasions appears chaotic.
Perhaps it's the nature of football clubs which seems unlike other organisations.
From watching the Prime Documentary it's evident that Parish talks of discussing with the likes of journalist Neil Ashton and Mark Bright in a car park whether to sack Freedman during the promotion season.
Sounds knee jerk for a decision of such magnitude.
And now - what are we looking for a head coach (Cooper,Ismael), a manager (Dyche, Nuno) or something in between ((Lampard)?
The thinking appears fuzzy even though Parish is usually clear sighted and goal oriented.
Is it the structure that's the problem in reaching a decision?
He has to keep Freedman and the Americans on board and take into account the existing backroom staff.
Sounds complicated and may partly explain the procrastination.
