I'm not quite sure what to make of your post. First you say "that we can't let a new man manage as he wants" and then you say that "We don't seem to understand if you want class you have to pay for it" Are you saying that we need to pay top money to get a top manager but he won't be allowed to manage the way he wants?

I’d have liked to have seen Nuno here, but I trust SP and co who seemed to have found out something they were not happy about and took the position that it’s our club, if you want to come then do so, but we’re not going to go out of business to get you. And if all else fails, I’d be quite happy to give it a go, especially if they put me on the same wages as Roy has been on....

I guess 'haggling' reflects the difference between a club owned and run by a local businessman who's put his own money in and is careful about how it's spent, and a club run by an oil sheikdom or a Russian mafiosi where money really is no object. Originally posted by pax3908

Parish stepping away from the negotiations shows a very responsible approach. He has the future of our club to consider and whilst he recognised that Nuno has a lot to offer in management terms he also saw that his appointment could lead too disruption for our club in the not to distant future. Sound judgement in my opinion. Rest assured the manager he gets will suit our clubs profile and future plans even if it is not to the liking to some of our fans. Whoever eventually gets the job will no doubt be very pleased to get the chance to manage a stable team in the Premier League. I'd rather have someone like that than a manager with a long list of demands. I guess as dull as it was at times, the club was quite spoiled with Roy who never complained about the cards he was dealt.

We will end up with someone who is desperate for a job in the PL and accepts SPs demands. It won’t necessarily be the right person for the future of the club.

I'm just speculating but if this happened SP was probably right to walk away. Nuno looks a great manager but he was given a massive budget at Wolves and bought a number of top Portuguese players. He will not have the contacts or budget at Palace

Well Everton and Spurs haven't found a manager yet either so we are not alone. The problem for Palace is that we don't currently appear to be a great proposition. A major rebuild is required in the summer months which will be a big challenge for whoever comes in. Nobody wants a relegation on their CV so it is understandable that persuading a manager of any calibre to take on the role might be tricky. If they are not reassured that the funds will be there to bring in some quality players they may well feel the risk is too great.
