Looking at all the people out of contract by summer.

Is this a planned event ? Will we even recognise the squad for the first game next season ?

and if so, will this be a risky strategy ?

revitalise with some young blood ? or throw out the baby with the bathwater ?

An inevitability or 'dont fix it if it isnt broken' ?

for sure, our whole defensive lineup has been leaky. But do not let 'goals conceded' statistics fool you. We did many heroic defenses all season...the brighton game for one.

the kickings we took from Liverpool et al have skewed our statistics. On a good day our defence was ok....just about for the Prem.

We still have a lot of old players....but they are some of our best players.

Didn't QPR spend stupid money on getting a bunch of new glory players together...who didnt gel as a team. And it was a disaster. Certainly its a familiar story...fill the squad with new expensive talent and lose team cohesion & lose that je ne sais quoi.

A major clearout of personnel ?

your thoughts ?

That's a recipe for disaster.

With the introduction of Fergason, Eze, Mitchell etc...the club's clearly conscious of the fact we need to bring the playing age down. But it's got to be gradual. I'd be looking to offload a handful of the old guard and bringing in 3 - 4 exciting younger prospects.

Along with an exciting young manager, of course.

The best teams blend experience with youth.

For me, guys like Cahill, Ward, McArthur, Luka and Townsend still have something to offer. Whereas unfortunately I think it's curtains for Hennessy, Dann, McArthy and Wickham. All useful players once upon a time...but not our future.

McCarthy still good.

Unfortunately Townsend not. He needs to be replaced for someone who offers something going forward, most importantly goals.

As we don't seem to have the proverbial pot to piss in I would guess that all replacements will be freebies and loans and upgrading Townsend can't be done unless the shareholders raid their piggy banks

McCarthy still has a year left on contract, MacArthur's contract is out, the most worrying for me is Schlupp, keep him and Cahill, and Clyne if he drops his wages a lot, the rest out, Buy 2 new central midfielders and a young center back

you may not like our style of play or feel hurt by games like Liverpool/Leicester, but bear in mind ...

this year may be our best 'points-tally/position in the table' in the living memory of most fans.

The season used to be 38 games long. Presumably after our first two games this season you were saying we’d be nailed on to win the league.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

This is basically the problem hence rumours we're after players like Lundstrom and the young Juve CB Dragusin both rumoured to be available on a (so-called) free this summer. Also, if Mateta gets enough chances to prove his worth we will have a significant (for us) financial commitment to turn the loan into a purchase by the end of next season at the latest.

I reckon we will try to get someone like RLC or Gallagher in either permanently or on loan to bolster midfield. Beyond that it's a question of whether or not Zaha goes and if he does, who we decide to try and buy (and at what inflated price)?

I don't see a mega clear-out.

We are not some lower division club where such clubs 'Shed' lots of players at the end of their contracts and scour the 'Free Transfer' market for players released from other clubs.

Citing examples, I believe since the end of last season, Blackpool have brought in 22 players and Northampton 18 players.

Does not work in this manner in the PL.

if i recall correctly, Leeds spunked a lorryload of money on glory players before going bankrupt and relegated. I took them an eternity to get back up to this league.

Until 2004, when the First Division became the Championship, teams in the former played 46 games.
