P*ss poor again last night. Could not trap a bag of sand. Can't get past a full back with the ball. No right foot. Cannot cross or deliver a corner. One eye on future media career I suspect. Time to ship him out.

Why pick on him? Ayew wandering around like a lost soul and then running into trouble when he did have the ball. Milosevic can't organise a proverbial p--s up in a brewery let alone be constructive Without Zaha we were doomed and team set up to lose. Hodgson's tactics plus a very good City team - we had no chance - Townsend not to blame.

I thought he played well and looked fairly sharp in the first half ? Most were poor but I thought he ran himself into the ground and that's all you can ask for against a team like that. I'd probably argue there's a difference between poor and the fact of who they were up against, too.

The issue with Townsend is pace. He just isn't that quick anymore. I just can’t see any excuse for not trying the youngsters out wide. If Banks is fit he is certainly worth a try, also Pierrick is just as effective as Townsend is now. He could at least be given a run out for 25 mins. We learned nothing from a thrashing and tried nothing new.

He tries, which is good to see, but I don’t understand what he offers any more. He has neither the skill or the pace to go past a player, he rarely gets into goal scoring positions and his once fearsome, outside the box shot, now mostly finds row Z. He’s been a good steady performer for us however it is a position we now need an upgrade.

In situations like last night it can't hurt to give one or two of the youngsters a run out. We can't score so are we just playing for a point from a goalless draw?

Townsend like Eze play nearer the back four than the forward(s). It seems under RH that there job is to protect the fullbacks rather than use pace at the other end creating chances / crosses for the forward(s) thereby sacrificing the defensive duties given to them? Can’t remember the last time I saw our wide midfielders get past a right or left back and sling in a cross or pass to our attacking players. Our midfield play so deep that it’s impossible for our wide midfielders to support our forwards. It may be Townsend’s time is up but it’s a tall order asking him and Eze to do so much work. Perhaps with younger central midfielders it would free Townsend and Eze up to play more forward. It also requires the back four not to be so deep - tough job for our present ageing team? No doubt Townsend and Eze have made mistakes causing goals against recently (Wolves and Man City) but then most players are doing that?

I totally agree, I’ve absolutely no idea why he gets in the team and his goal scoring record is nothing short of pitiful.

That’s one of our problems, Roy will never give one of the youngsters a chance unless we have so many injuries he has no choice.

The worry is that Roy has asked Eze to use Townsend as a role model and learn from him!
